Product Description:

Schnitz Remote Lite is a wrapper for OSXvnc that makes it easy to start server-initiated VNC sessions. To use it, launch the application, enter the IP address or domain name of your listensing station, and click connect. The listening station must be running a VNC client, such as Chicken of the VNC, version 2.0b4 or later, and set to listen for incoming connections on port 5500 (default). When the Schnitz Remote Lite user clicks connect, their screen will appear in a window on the listening station. Since Schnitz Remote initiates the connection, it is not blocked by most firewalls and requires no special network configuration. Schnitz Remote has been successfully tested on numerous business, home, and university networks. Customized versions of Schnitz Remote, with your own logo, contact information, and server addresses, are also available.

What's new in this version:

  • User can now specify which port to connect to (5500 default).
  • Last used host and port are now saved to a preference file
  • Removed the cause of the "storing password failed" error.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later

Schnitz Remote Lite ReviewWorks as advertised - Version: 1.1, 4/17/2008 11:50AM PST

This works for me. If you have never done it, it is a little baffling the first time keeping track of which machine you are looking at, the listening and controlling client running something like Chicken of the VNC or the remotely controlled server running Schnitz. It helps to put different background images on the machines. I was able to connect, control, disconnect and reconnect easily. The little dot cursor is OK, although I would prefer a cursor that looks like the cursor on the server, particularly for teaching.

All I get is an applescript error - "storing password failed (1)"

hmmmm. I didn't even know there was a password involved with reverse listening

OK, I start COTVNC on one computer (listening station) and do command-L (listen to server). I start Remote Lite on the other computer, enter IP of the listening station and click connect. "Connect" button becomes "Disconnect" button but nothing happens on the listening station. What am I doing wrong?
