Apple MacBook SMC Firmware Troubleshooting Reportcannot restart my macbook... - Version: 1.3, 5/29/2009 02:46PM PST

domingosh
After installation of this update, cannot restart my computer (Macbook pro, 15inch, running last version of 10.4.x). The disk makes strange noise and cannot restart even from CD Techtool or DiskWarrior. Completely dead.
Any help on how to ressuscitate the machine???

Apple MacBook SMC Firmware Troubleshooting Reportproblems installing smc firmware update 1.1 - Version: 1.1, 12/23/2006 12:57PM PST

I am running OS X 10.4.8 on a new macbook, but when i try to restart my computer during the update process the start up screen that should show the installation status bar is visible for a brief second, the computer reboots normally and the update window informs me that the installation was unsuccessful. no mater how many times i try to restart and complete the installation - the same thing happens. now my fan is stuck on high gear. Any thoughts on trouble shooting the installation/update process?

Thanks in advance

Apple MacBook SMC Firmware Troubleshooting ReportCan not instal up-date Firmware - Version: 1.1, 10/28/2006 10:19PM PST

John Samson
When I try to install this Firmware (I've also tried the other MacBook Pro - early 2006 - version) I get the message "This computer doesn't need this up-date"

Any one have an idea why this is happening to me?

PS: might be the fact I've deleted the older update file from Application / Utilities folder after installing?

In this case, should I go for the reestoring factory Firmware process, envolving the disk image CD burn?

Thanks a lot!

Since, mysteriously, nobody has commented on this, I will - and say that it didn't cause any problems at all. I'm not sure it really did much of anything, but certainly no problems.

Apple MacBook SMC Firmware ReviewHot and softly mooing, or cool and more loudly whirring: pick one - Version: Update, 8/23/2006 06:11AM PST

This update seems to reduce the point at which the fans kick in, and increases the hysteresis. i.e. I've found the fans come on earlier, faster and stay longer. Which is fine, I guess - my Macbook's still mostly silent (when idle) but makes more of a racket now than previously when busy.

I was a bit worried when first logging in (and as I started writing this), the fans were quite loud (much louder than I've heard before even with both cores pegged); they've now quietened down so that I can't hear them in a quiet office.

was 65c-75c, after upgrade drop to 52c-60c. now it hardly go over 65c as fan start to speed up when hit 60c, before it only start speed up when hit 76c above. Great update note to be missed.

hope next update will have manual fan control.

Apple MacBook SMC Firmware ReviewFan is a Lot Louder - Version: Update, 8/17/2006 03:31PM PST

I have previously posted my Macbook (Serial 4H621) result on Intelmactemp.com

http://www.intelmactemp.com/profile/292

The mooing noise was on between 65-67 oC previously -- low pitch fan noise on and off at that level. And my fan only started at full speed (LOUD) around 72-78 oC -- that only happened when I did compilation of a build.

Now yes the temperature reading on CoreDuoTemp is about 8oC lower, and the low pitch mooing noise disappear, BUT now the Fan was turned on much LOUDER at much lower temperature at the same CPU workload as before.

Now even when *each* of the dual core CPU is about 80% idle, at temperature between 55-60oC, the fan is at medium to FULL speed (VERY LOUD).

I suspect this firmware update made most macbook better, but in my batch, the fan is now much LOUDER at normal circumstances.
