Product Description:

This tools allows you to convert placed color photos to grayscale without modifying the original color image.

Sometimes you want a particular picture to be output as a grayscale image, yet the original image is in color. You could open it in Photoshop and convert it to grayscale, but you can instead also use this plug-in. The original image is not changed and remains in color, yet it is output as a grayscale image. The gray image will only render on the black (K) plate.

What's new in this version:

  • Now supports transparency applied to gray image
  • Now supports embedded images
  • Fixed abnormal slowdown when may items where selected

Converting a colour image to grey for professional printing is not quite the same as only printing the black plate.

While this will certainly be useful for printing proof copies, I tend to think it would be much better to use Photoshop, together with a professional plugin such as theimagingfactory's ConvertToBW Pro. This gives you much more control over the delicate balance required to produce a professional greyscale image from a colour one.

I'm not trying to denigrate the author of this software. Kudos for doing the work. I do think, however, that this solution will appeal more to "home" users of InDesign than professional ones.
