RiffWorks Standard Usage TipDoesn't work with iMic - Version: 2.1, 10/4/2007 08:52PM PST

Unlike every single other OS X audio program under the sun, it cannot output sound through a Griffin iMic. It'll recognize the iMic, and allow you to set it up as an audio device, and the input meters show that it can accept input through it, but as far as output all you'll get is stone silence.

Pretty stupid, if you ask me.

RiffWorks Standard ReviewThe Easiest To Use and Best Sounding Recording Software - Version: 2.0, 8/9/2006 03:40PM PST

If you thought Garageband was good - you ain't seen nothing yet, my friend. RiffWorks has been designed with the guitarist in mind from the ground up. Every inch of the design has been created to make it easy to get ideas down quickly, with minimum fuss and maximise your creativity.

The first revolutionary aspect of the software is the Instant Drummer - just select a vibe and the drummer takes care of the rest. The patterns can shift and evolve at the turn of a knob, just find something you like, hit record and BOOM!...start those creative rolling. The software comes with a number of Instant Drummers but the number of available drummers is growing all the time with Drums on Demand, Drummerheads and Submersible are among the companies working on new content. All of which are available through Sonoma's own store for the very reasonable price of $9.99 each.

Don't be fooled by it's apparent simplicity - under the hood there's a tons of extra options and effects that you can use to personlise your recordings. Then when you're done why not share it with the world. At the touch of a button your latest creation can be mixed and uploaded to the RiffCaster website. This community aspect to the software and the music it can be used to create is pretty unique to RiffWorks.

Version 2 has taken this community aspect one step further with the introduction of RiffLink. This allows RiffWorks users worldwide to collaborate on new tracks. RiffLink also incorporates a chat function to allow users to discuss their collaboration and swap playing and recording tips. RiffLink is still in beta at the moment (Aug 06) but initial signs are extremely promising and when it goes live it will be yet another unique feature of the software.
