As an alternative, try looking out your window or sticking your head outside. Come on. You can pull yourself out of your basement computer room for a minute. Right?
Almost Perfect!

LunaMenu is obviously inspired by it's predecessor, the now defunct MoonMenu:

But developer John Schilling didn't stop at just copying MoonMenu, he refined it, with a superior menubar icon and a groovy "moon window" the floating level of which can be adjusted anywhere from being part of the desktop, to floating above everything. LunaMenu provides a wealth of astronomical information, and includes a handy calendar for following moon phases. My menubar has become quite crowded, but LunaMenu is so good I couldn't resist adding it.
Still, LunaMenu could use a little polish. First, a larger "Moon Window" would be cool for serious moon gazing. Secondly, LunaMenu forces me to open a new window to see a lot of info that could easily fit in the drop-down menu, so it would be nice to be able to configure the menu display. Most importantly, it would be nice to add a list of definitions for all the lunar jargon, like MoonMenu had. Most people hear "waxing gibbous" and think of a primate in heat - or at least I do. Educate your users, and they will forever remember you.
Don't get the wrong impression with these few criticisms, I'm totally groovin' on LunaMenu. Like any new app, it just needs a little spit and polish. A tip of the hat to Developer Schilling for a wonderful app!
