Product Description:

Query, edit, browse, and manage all major databases from one database tool. RazorSQL is a universal database query tool, programming and sql editor, database navigator, and administration tool with built-in connection capabilities for DB2, Derby, Firebird, FrontBase, HSQLDB, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, OpenBase, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Anywhere, SQLite, and Sybase. Any other JDBC or ODBC (Windows only) compliant database is also supported. RazorSQL ships with a built-in relational database engine that is up and running out of the box and requires no end-user administration. Some of the main features contained in RazorSQL are visual tools for creating, editing, describing, altering, dropping, and viewing database objects; tools for importing and exporting data; a database browser for the viewing of database objects and structures; and a robust programming editor with support for SQL, PL/SQL, TransactSQL, SQL PL, PHP, Java, XML, HTML, and eleven other programming languages. Also included are a query builder, tools for creating, editing, and executing stored procedures, triggers, and functions, a tool to compare table data and/or query results, and SQL history. Add functionality with the plugin API.

What's new in this version:

  • MySQL, MS SQL Server, and Sybase - Auto correction of connection errors when connecting locally
  • Double clicking of query results column sorts column results in ascending order. Double clicking again sorts in descending order
  • Edit Table Tool - When max row count is reached for edit table tool, unable to edit rows inserted after the max count
  • PostgreSQL - double clicking or menu based launch of edit table tool not working for query results
  • Sort Ascending menu option on query results column brings up sort dialog instead of simply sorting the results

RazorSQL ReviewIf you need an SQL GUI this is it - Version: 4.2.7, 6/11/2008 01:37PM PST

I've tried almost every other, except NaviCat. This is by far the best. Both MySQL and PostgreSQL have great CLI clients, but when dealing with big tables it is sometimes difficult to browse results (especially with large text fields/ image blobs/ etc.). That's where a GUI makes itself useful. A GUI client at a minimum needs to:

(a) hassle-free/easy manual SQL composition and execution (don't need to lock oneself into idiot mode all the time)
(b) easy way to view, browse, sort and edit large tables and query results
(c) form-based editing of records with large/expanded text fields
(d) code-completion (to avoid having to remember all those column/field names!).

RazorSQL does all this (and much, much, much more). It's SQL editor is amazing. I could not bring myself to try NaviCat because it seems silly to have to buy separate GUI's for MySQL and PostgrSQL, since all that's involved is plugging in a new module to the abstraction layers, but of all the other Mac-based SQL front-ends I've tried, RazorSQL has stood out clearly as the best.

It says it supports all major databases but I don't see any mention of MySQL.
