Product Description:

mariosudoku is a free generator and solver for the homonymous game. A game of logic gaining momentum very quickly. You may click on any tile, revealed or empty to change/enter a number 1 to 9 even those revealed automatically and therefore right in my solution. There might be more than 1 solution to a sudoku and I have solved the game in a different way than the one created originally. You may choose to have row and column highlited or a square to help work out possible numbers.

What's new in this version:

To upgrade any version trash the previous version and use the current one. New/Changed things in this version:
  • Tiles always revert to original state (white) when the mouse is moved out of them
  • Save now works properly and added menu File:Save to allow for user wanting to save manually when game is created but before it is started
  • Added menu File:revert to saved to quickly restart game from last save. Revert to saved differs from Replay this sudoku which restarts the game from scratch.
  • Changed some shortcut command keys in menu items.
PS I should be able to start work on vers a.0.0.5 in 4 weeks time.

mariosudoku Commentarynot all puzzles have unique solution - Version: a.0.0.4, 3/2/2007 10:13AM PST

I just downloaded this and created one puzzle on the "diabolical" level. The board created has no 1's, no 5's, and no 8's. Hence, the puzzle does not have a unique solution.

I have always considered it a rule of sudoku that the puzzle has a unique solution, so this is disappointing, even for a level labeled "diabolical."

mariosudoku ReviewExcellent for brainiacs - Version: a.0.0.2, 7/9/2006 12:07PM PST

I love this version of Sudoku. I have used mostly the Washingtonpost one online, so I am bit partial to that -- however Mario's sudock compares excellently to it. The cosmetics of this version are spartan -- but the emphasis is on the difficulty which can be adjusted infinitely. I found that even given quite a few freebies I had trouble solving, and I usually get the Washingtonpost 5 star puzzles in less than 1/2 hours. So in terms of brain power, this was excellent.

Some things I was not used to -- it is hard to see which numbers are "given" because they no only are the same color, but can also be changed just like all the other numbers. This is a pain in the butt, but it also can work the other way since you can adjust those as well and get a totally different solve to the puzzle. I would either fix this, or use it to create alternative "endings" to be submitted or somethng like that -- It might be fun.

I will look for updates. Thanks for providing a great piece of software.
