Product Description:

This Photoshop plug-in fully automates the creation of textile, wallpaper, and other surface designs. Also creates web page backgrounds, pattern-based optical illusions, and other repeating patterns.

What's new in this version:

Support for smart objects: With SymmetryShop 2, smart objects (available in Photoshop CS2 and later versions) open up a cornucopia of powerful new ways to design patterns. Use any combination of layers as a motif, even one SymmetryShop pattern as a source for another. Add complex vector images, such as SymmetryWorks patterns created in Adobe Illustrator. Possibilities are indeed unlimited.
Multiple source layers: Combine as many image layers as you like in a smart object and use the object as the seed layer of your SymmetryShop patterns. The source layers will remain completely independent and you will be able to replace, edit, transform, or otherwise rearrange the elements of your motif. Then rebuild the pattern with a click.
All-over and tossed repeats: Also use smart objects to quickly create pattern designs from elements that are arbitrarily scattered over the repeat area. Keep similar elements linked to each other. Make as many copies as you wish. Freely rotate, flip, and scale copies to achieve a more organic look. Edit one element and instantly apply the changes to all linked copies. Reposition elements in your seed layer at any time, add or remove copies, or apply other non-destructive transformations. Rebuild the pattern with a click when you are ready.
Composite repeats: Composite repeats combine elements of two or more symmetry types. To create a composite repeat, first create a SymmetryShop pattern in a smart object. This pattern will consist of a few tiles or just a single tile. Add other design elements if you wish and use the smart object as a seed for another SymmetryShop pattern. By nesting patterns that way you can generate virtually any type of patterns, while keeping all components separately editable.
Support for text, fill, and shape layers: Create patterns from text or other vector shapes and fill layers (filled with a solid color, gradient, or pattern). Edit the text at any time, change the font or formatting, warp, or apply any other Photoshop editing technique. Edit vectors with Photoshop's vector tools. Then rebuild with a click.
Layer and vector masks: SymmetryShop has always allowed you to select a part of a layer for use in your pattern. With SymmetryShop 2, you can also apply Photoshop's layer and vector masks to isolate (mask) parts of the seed layer that you do not want to use. SymmetryShop will then build a pattern from the remaining (unmasked) areas. Edit your masks with the familiar Photoshop tools and rebuild at any time.
New autorun feature: SymmetryShop is especially useful when you run it as an action. Set the basic parameters of your patterns in the SymmetryShop palette, return to Photoshop, and use the full power of Photoshop tools to edit the pattern components—then instantly rebuild your pattern by playing an action.

With SymmetryShop 2 and Photoshop CS3, you can simplify this further. Build your pattern using smart objects and run the plug-in automatically (autorun) every time your smart object updates. You don't even have to play an action. Keep editing pattern components in one window while viewing the updated pattern in another window.
Automatic canvas extension: In the past, you had to select a relatively small part of your artwork before launching SymmetryShop—or increase the canvas size so that the plug-in would have enough spare room to build your pattern. This is no longer necessary. Just launch SymmetryShop 2 and if the canvas is not big enough, the plug-in will add the necessary space.
Productivity enhancements: Other conveniences in SymmetryShop 2 include the automatic selection of non-transparent pixels in the seed layer, the ability to lock (fully or partially) the seed layer, and zoom buttons in the SymmetryShop palette.
