SpyMe ReviewSerene exterior...but - Version: 2.5, 3/11/2009 09:42AM PST

An attractive and simple interface but the set-up is still waaaaay too complicated for mere mortals - you'll need a degree in computer science to configure ports, DNS servers, etc! Things like creating a dynamic DNS name and establishing a spare port number should be automatic and built-in.

SpyMe could be a great tool, but you get sometimes here and there some trouble.

I just downloaded and installed this for the very first time and was told "Thank you for evaluating SpyMe. Your free trial period of 30 days is over now." As a result I cannot try it to see if it works at all, let alone works well. As such I must give it the lowest rating. If there is any way to get this to run even once I will be glad to add stars.

SpyMe ReviewWeird: It Works Better Under Leopard! - Version: 2.3, 3/12/2008 07:25PM PST

Previously, I compared SpyMe to Desktop Transporter and Timbuktu. I thought that SpyMe had the performance and price edge over both DT and Timb., but was the least stable of the three. Since upgrading SpyMe is far more stable under Leopard. Meanwhile, DT crashes all the time.

I've been using SpyMe for almost 2 months under Leopard, and I don't recall it crashing on me. It's just as fast as ever, which is important considering that both computers have dual monitor setups. I could actually use my office computer for real work (it's a very fast connection) using SpyMe. The rendition is full color and the refresh, while noticeable, is perfectly acceptable.

I haven't used Apple's version. I heard that there were security issues, so I'm in no hurry. Anyway, as long as SpyMe works this well, I don't need to look further.

Highly recommended.

SpyMe ReviewUpdate - Version: 2.3, 7/25/2007 11:26AM PST

Dirk Lemben, the Developer of SpyMe has finally refunded me on the Unlimited User Liscence - which I truly appreciate.

I fully agree with both Implant and Macaholic that the name gives customer's the willies - yet all in all the product is trully brilliant, though it is a mystery as to why Dirk won't (or can't) make the SpyMe Daemon backward compatible with Mac OS 10.3.9.

I'm not a Coder or a Developer, yet it would seem that changing a string somewhere in the Daemon's Package Resources, could make it compatible with both Panther and Tiger, as both have the same TCP/IP connection resources.

It's kind of a pity really, because the trial period really showed me how well it worked.

Agrees with Implant on the state of Dirk's health or well-being, regarding the issue of lack of support.

SpyMe ReviewAlmost Famous - Version: 2.3, 7/20/2007 10:35AM PST

This is an excellent product, the very best VNC client. Sadly there are two major caveats: zero customer support following superb initial support, which causes me concern for the developers heath and heart beat (I hope he is ok) as well as stability problems with the server app during periods of more intense usage (all my server installs have died multiple times on all installations [10-server license] during active sessions [the only recourse is logging in via ssh, killing the server app and relaunching it, then reconnecting with SpyMe).

Oh yeah, and the name is absurd. Nothing like serving your client base with a name that seems to to gush, "Hey, I'm SpyWare!"—even if that couldn't be further from the truth. Oh well.

This is an amazing product. I hope the developer deals with the name problem, stability issues in server mode and lack of support contact. Until then, I have to be frank in my review.

Honestly, my first contact with him was very positive and I have every reason to believe that something serious is preventing him from addressing our concerns. I am hopeful that he resurfaces and proves me correct.

SpyMe CommentaryLACK OF SUPPORT, etc.... - Version: 2.3, 6/23/2007 06:47PM PST

As written by ClockWorkOren, it seems that the developer is on permanent holiday. Add the fact that SpyMe2 is not entirely compatible with 10.3.9, and it seems that this developer needs to start offering refunds/apologies...

SpyMe Troubleshooting ReportIncompatible with Mac OS 10.3.9 - Version: 2.3, 6/22/2007 04:23PM PST

ClockWorkOren
SpyMe is NOT fully compatible with Mac OS 10.3.9. If one wishes to use SpyMe to troubleshoot Remote Apple Macs that run Mac OS 10.3.9, one can only use the SpyMe.app to do so, as the SpyMe Daemon will not install into Mac OS 10.3.9.

This presents a vast problem: If the remote machine (running Panther) can only use the SpyMe app, which has a trial period of 30 days - when it expires - they can no longer get support UNLESS they purchase the 3 User License... for the SpyMe app - which a customer who requires support is not going to do.

I am extremely disatisfied with this product failings, and even more disatisfied with Read Pixel's total lack of support. Contrary to whatever the developer's page says, Read Pixel will not reply to any e-mails.

An Application cannot be "half compatible". It either works or it doesn't, and if it doesn't quite work on a certain Operating System, this should be written somewhere on the site or in licence agreement.

I've paid for the Unlimited User version and now find that the SpyMe Daemon will only run on remote Macs running Mac OS 10.4 or higher, and that the developer, Dirk - will not provide any support.

Very angry indeed.

Great app, but please change the name to something a that will make my users a little less nervous. Something more Microsoft, something more like AssistMe, or SupportMe...

Simple to setup and worked flawlessly, screen update on intel based macs in a network was quite fast (but terrible on an older laptop running the same os). Hours of fun with unsuspecting co-workers!
