Media Indexer CommentaryCompare to FileFinder - Version: 2.4, 6/29/2007 12:12PM PST

Media Indexer is a nicely designed tool, but if it is the sort of thing you need, you would do well to compare it with FileFinder. Media Indexer has the important avantage of being able to open multiple windows, and it costs roughly half as much, but FileFinder has very many more viewing options and scanning options, it has previews and there is far more that you can do with files and enclosing folders. It also seems to do much faster scans.

It will be interesting to see how MI develops.

Why would anyone buy this when Disk Alias can do the same thing for free?

Disk alias simply creates aliases of every file on a disk/in a folder in the proper hierarchy and then stores the alias directory tree wherever you want it. I have a folder at the top level of my Documents drive called 'Disc Aliases' which holds all my disc aliases.

If I'm looking for a file that I can't find, I just search for it with Spotlight and if it only finds an alias, not only do I know it's not on my system at the time, but it also shows me which disc it's on.
