Product Description:

Altiverb 6 is a convolution reverb plug-in for Mac OS X and Windows XP. It uses top quality samples of real spaces to create reverb, ranging from Sydney Opera House to the cockpit of a Jumbo Jet. Altiverb 6 offers the most extensive set of parameters, it supports all professional plug-in formats including protools TDM on the Mac, parameter automation and surround. Altiverb 6 gives you a choice between iLok SmartKey or Challenge/response copy protection, it lets you sample your own spaces (currently Mac only), and Altiverb is efficient on your cpu.

What's new in this version:

  • [PT] Pro Tools 7.4.2, OS X 10.5.3 and Intel Mac compatible.
The RTAS version has been fixed to work with optimal performance in Mac OS X 10.5.3 and Pro Tools 7.4.2. Earlier there was the need to exclude some processor cores from RTAS processing, the playback engine can now be set to the number of processor cores available.
  • [PT TDM] The TDM version has a fix to make reloading a session with several Altiverbs active reliable. Data traffic to and from the DSPs could be hampered during load of a session, especially with an Expansion Chassis (ethernet or Magma) is connected. The fix makes the traffic reliable, albeit on a chassis somewhat slower.
  • [PT ]The RTAS version has been made better compatible for exchanges between PC and Mac, and between HD and LE systems. A session with a TDM version inserted will now open an RTAS instance automatically when transported to an LE system.
  • [PT MAC] Stopped CFM support for Pro Tools **
  • Removed several smaller problems
  • Added possibility to turn off auto update checking
  • ! Due to changes in the VST architecture we have been unable to maintain automation in sessions made with Altiverb version 6.1.2 or before. Typically: gain knobs left at 0 dB in 6.1.2 or lower appear as +13.2 dB in Altiverb 6.2.0. This only goes for automation data. regular saved settings appear fine (except for settings saved in Pyramix).
** From Altiverb 6.2 on Altiverb will not work anymore Pro Tools 6.x, Pro Tools 7 is required.

Altiverb ReviewAltiverb's rep is great - Version: 6.0.2, 1/27/2007 02:47PM PST

Altiverb is praised universally by all the audio professionals I know. And that is dozens. No, I don't own it myself, but if I come into some money, I know it is a good choice.

Altiverb Reviewthe best - Version: 5.4.7, 10/5/2006 06:11AM PST

don´t compare it. not with hardware, not with spacedesigner, not with any other plug-in. it is a very special piece of software that sounds fantastic and has the best IRs by far.

i use it since it came out and it never let me down. the people at audio ease are driven maniacs who are fast and friendly. not many companies around that made such an impression on me.

Altiverb CommentaryAltiverb is NOT primarily for hardware emulation - Version: 5.4.7, 10/4/2006 11:55AM PST

Altiverb sounds great and is very controllable. I wish software like this had some way of payment for use. Like having a license for non-commercial use, or a semi-commercial use. It would be great to use this for minor projects, but I can't justify the cost unless I am doing serious paid work. I'd easily throw them some money if I could get the software for less, and I'd easily be willing to pay the full price if I ended up using it for serious commercial work. Anyway, there doesn't exist any software or hardware that is superior to Altiverb. What it does, it does the best. And that includes recreating reverb of Notre Dame cathedral, EMI Studios, a hardware unit, or even something imaginary that otherwise couldn't exist.
