MOTU Digital Performer Review6.01 closer... not yet ready for prime time - Version: 6.01, 8/30/2008 11:18AM PST

While DP 6.01 looks better and some things are working better, a few nagging issues remain. First and foremost is that some users (myself included) are experiencing app freezes while editing in the event list. DP is also reporting a "Fatal" error while loading some plug-ins but doesn't say which plug-in is to blame. Proverb is the one that is always showing at the time of the OS error report, and the app appears to be continuing to load and operate normally after that.

MOTU Digital Performer Review6.01 is Good - Version: 6.01, 8/30/2008 04:29AM PST

When 6.0 was released in June, Digital Performer's user base was initially very stoked, but certain shortcomings in its Graphic Interface and changes in its modes of Selecting Data gradually led to a certain dissatisfaction. Some really cool new features like a Convolution Reverb and LA-2A modeling Dynamic Processor Plug-In, and some bug-fixes were still big Positives.

With this release, there are a lot of smiling geeks and musicians in Digital Performer Land.

One thing to note, the Installation Notes say that an ailas for the updated DP Program will be put in your Dock. (DP is Mac Only...) But in fact, after Installation, the DP Icon in the Dock is still a link to your old DP 6.0 application, not the newly installed 6.01. You have to manually trash the DP icon in the Dock, and drag in a new one from DP 6.01's (real) icon, and then you're good to go. (If you don't use the Dock, or want a DP icon in there, then ignore this paragraph : )

MOTU Digital Performer ReviewNew News... - Version: 5.13, 11/16/2007 09:27PM PST

DP 5.13 works great with Leopard. Oddly, DP 5.12 didn't but DP 5.11 did!

Some issues with time stamping are grumbling about and not everyone is happy about the retention of the SD II audio format. But no one has said anything about crashes or failures in Leopard and DP 5.13 so it looks like it's safe to move forward.
