What is Remote Buddy and what can I do with it?
  • Control your entire Mac with your remote control: applications, games, mouse, keyboard, internet, ratings, audio, video, drives, files, displays, power, ..
  • 95+ different Behaviours that support applications, games, tools, operating system and hardware control already included.
  • Just works. Out of the box - without any configuration.
  • Decent, smart, dynamic and configurable menu that you can adjust to your needs (and not the other way round).
  • The most powerful, most versatile, most rapidly growing tool for the Apple Remote. Winner in the "Best use of Apple Technologies" category of the MacGeneration Awards 2006.
  • Not afraid of a thorough test: testdrive the full, unlimited product for up to 30 days with the trial version.
  • Unparalleled, direct hardware support: built-in support for the most popular remote controls on the Mac: Apple Remote, iPhone, iPod Touch, Keyspan DMR, Keyspan Express, Keyspan RF Remote for Front Row, Griffin AirClick USB, eHome 2005 receivers, Wii Remote, many mobiles, keyboards, .. see the full list here.
  • Built-in, powerful developer tools for those who won't accept the sky as the limit ;-)

IOSPIRIT GmbH and Remote Buddy are neither affiliated with nor endorsed or sponsored by Apple, Sony, Nintendo, Keyspan, Griffin or any other, previously named company.

What's new in this version:

  • NEW: Support for EyeTV Remote controls! You can now use most remote controls that come bundled with EyeTV to control Remote Buddy. EyeTV needs to run at the same time for this to work. For remote controls to turn up in Remote Buddy, you need to press a button on the respective remote.
  • NEW: Support for EyeTV favorite groups.
  • NEW: Refreshed "leopardized" on-screen menu look.
  • NEW: Script Remote - allows third party driver software to command Remote Buddy via Apple Events / AppleScript.
  • NEW: New Behaviour that gives you control over Spaces.
  • Enhancement: New categories in Music Library Browser: Genres, Podcasts, Movies, TV Shows
  • Enhancement: Automatic alphabetic grouping in Movie Library when you have many movies in it.
  • Enhancement: Improved support for dual tuner hardware used with EyeTV.
  • Enhancement: AJAX Remote's UISlider class now also works under FireFox.
  • Enhancement: Menus with many entries are now broken up into several chunks when used through AJAX Remote and viewed in Mobile Safari®. Previously the amount of HTML code for long lists could not be handled properly by Mobile Safari® due to the CPU and memory constraints of the devices it is running on.
  • Enhancement: Smarter handling and filtering when multiple receivers can handle input from the same report.
  • Enhancement: The WiiMote mouse mode is automatically temporarily deactivated upon a mouse click, as to prevent accidental drags.
  • Fix: Bugfix in the AJAX Remote's Presenter Trackpad.
  • Fix: Bugfix in EyeTV Behaviour where Remote Buddy's menu could come up if you had the menu hold button mapped to the "switch to fullscreen menu" action.
  • Fix: Now playing information was previously not displayed correctly when playing music from a shared music library.
  • Fix: Support for multiple Apple® Remotes previously would previously not save changed settings.

Remote Buddy CommentaryStill not 64-bit! - Version: 1.14.1, 9/8/2009 06:48PM PST

Still not 64-bit -- this app still runs as 32-bit for the GUI application...

Awesome app with great potential, though...

Remote Buddy ReviewDoes what it says but slowly - Version: 1.11.1, 8/12/2008 01:39AM PST

This app does EXACTLY what it says it does however for iphone/ipod based remotes it uses Bonjour and very slowly at that. for basic itunes use its not a patch on the Apple Remote App!.
(had it been faster it would have earned another star)

Powerpoint and other remote work using iphone/ipod is so slow as to render it unusable for real-time presentations (at the speed I need to do them) but has some great features- although the user interface is not as intuitive as I would have hoped..

For hardwired Remotes it Works as described but I don't feel it adds any functionality to the Keyspan remote that the Keyspan software does Not have. (had it done more it would have earned another 1/2 star)

However if you need to work with SEVERAL different remotes then tis IS the application for you as it can use any remote to control any application.

Some support materials are only available in German but it is well documented overall so this is not an issue for those non-german speakers.

Unfortunately this version is now deleted from my system but I will keep looking at this product for improvements in speed and usability.

Remote Buddy ReviewReally good (with Keyspan Express Remote) - Version: 1.8, 1/13/2008 07:50AM PST

I am using my old Mac Mini PPC as a multimedia station and this software + a remote is really a great complement to my little TV setup.
Remote buddy provides a replacement to a mouse, controls Transmission and VLC and many other programs (awaken, itunes, etc.). The menus are slick and they offer direct access to your files (and yet, it offers the choice of the software you will use to open them).
Behaviours can be freely configured and that's probably better since the default one for VLC is not really adapted to the Keyspan Express Remote (meaning that the play/pause/forward buttons are not used by default, etc.).
