Remote Buddy CommentaryStill not 64-bit! - Version: 1.14.1, 9/8/2009 06:48PM PST

Still not 64-bit -- this app still runs as 32-bit for the GUI application...

Awesome app with great potential, though...

Remote Buddy ReviewDoes what it says but slowly - Version: 1.11.1, 8/12/2008 01:39AM PST

This app does EXACTLY what it says it does however for iphone/ipod based remotes it uses Bonjour and very slowly at that. for basic itunes use its not a patch on the Apple Remote App!.
(had it been faster it would have earned another star)

Powerpoint and other remote work using iphone/ipod is so slow as to render it unusable for real-time presentations (at the speed I need to do them) but has some great features- although the user interface is not as intuitive as I would have hoped..

For hardwired Remotes it Works as described but I don't feel it adds any functionality to the Keyspan remote that the Keyspan software does Not have. (had it done more it would have earned another 1/2 star)

However if you need to work with SEVERAL different remotes then tis IS the application for you as it can use any remote to control any application.

Some support materials are only available in German but it is well documented overall so this is not an issue for those non-german speakers.

Unfortunately this version is now deleted from my system but I will keep looking at this product for improvements in speed and usability.

Remote Buddy ReviewReally good (with Keyspan Express Remote) - Version: 1.8, 1/13/2008 07:50AM PST

I am using my old Mac Mini PPC as a multimedia station and this software + a remote is really a great complement to my little TV setup.
Remote buddy provides a replacement to a mouse, controls Transmission and VLC and many other programs (awaken, itunes, etc.). The menus are slick and they offer direct access to your files (and yet, it offers the choice of the software you will use to open them).
Behaviours can be freely configured and that's probably better since the default one for VLC is not really adapted to the Keyspan Express Remote (meaning that the play/pause/forward buttons are not used by default, etc.).

Do NOT use with Leopard and a MacBook Pro.
It will cause your trackpad and keyboard to stop working when waking up from a sleep after closing the lid.
The problem doesn't happen by putting the computer to sleep any other way.
Wait for an update past 1.8

Remote Buddy ReviewDating while hoping to marry. - Version: 1.1, 9/18/2007 04:18PM PST

(Note: This review is for the Wii remote fans only)

I love this application but I can't quite commit to it yet. If I were using only the bundled Apple remote I'd be sold.

Unfortunately I'm a Mac user with Mac tastes, and the wii remote features aren't all there yet. For whatever reason the wii remote motion sensor capabilities are horrendous. I've tried every infrared hack available, each to no avail. At best I've been able to stand up and do a few pirouettes while jumping and waving the wiimote in order to achieve an incredibly obtuse calibration response.

I don't know whether Remote Buddy utilizes the Darwin Remote framework or not, but seeing as my motion sensor experiences with Darwin Remote have been much closer to flawless without any need for tealight candles or other infrared source embellishments. I've been a bit baffled at the less elegant Darwin Remote's ability to outperform the more refined Remote Buddy's wii motion capabilities.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Remote Buddy hoping for future wii motion sensor improvements. For anyone that enjoys full wii remote capabilities, I'd recommend doing the same, hold off on your purchase and keep your eyes peeled for any RB wii motion improvements.

I only wished there would be more build in functions of EyeTV (e.g. directly call EPG) so I could make this great toll even more usefull.

Remote Buddy ReviewHubba Hubba - Version: 1.0RC1r2, 2/12/2007 11:56AM PST

When one of my Macs arrived with a remote, I downloaded several trial versions of different utilities to find ways to use it and wasn't impressed and gave up. I then heard a MacCast podcast with the guy from HDTV podcast, who raved about remote buddy and explained some of the things I could do, so I bought the full version and put some time in to play with it. WOW. The amazing thing about Remote Buddy is that is finds all kinds of files and offers them up so elegantly that I put all my other solutions in a drawer and now use Remote Buddy for everything. I use EyeTV, as I have a Mac Mini and a 20" monitor as my television in my bedroom. I even hardwired a USB touchpad across the room and onto my bedside table so that I could shut down the computer when I was ready to hit the sack. Remote buddy makes watching all my video content and running my X10 automated house so easy! Remote Buddy is now on my ten best list. Buy it. Play with it! Only suggestion is that they hurry up and get a PDF manual to download and print out.

Remote Buddy CommentaryFinally working - Version: 1.0RC1r2, 1/30/2007 03:43PM PST

Well, after my previous post I downloaded and tried out Mira - which only worked after I uninstalled the Keyspan software. Curious to see if the uninstall would also help Remote Buddy, I am glad to say it did and RB now works on my Mac mini setup. It is just a little ironic that it took an alternative remote control utility to help get RB running.

That said, now that I have had a real chance to try out RB I am very pleased with it as it does what the developer says it does. Still early to say for sure, but so far it seems to do pretty much all that I want it to do.

Overall... recommended.
