Mindjet MindManager ReviewWin-Centric junk - Version: 8.0.193, 11/20/2009 02:30PM PST

taaralyn
Don't waste your time with this Win-centric garbage, it rarely gets updated and always lags a version or so behind the Win version. Mostly the product suffers from the Win-centric paradigm that is inherent to the developers.

Mindjet MindManager: Fail.

Mindjet MindManager ReviewGood mind mapping tool, a little expensive for non-professional use - Version: 7.0.535, 1/23/2008 12:00AM PST

MindManager Mac has a good set of easy to use mind mapping features while deviating slightly from the traditional idea of a 'mind map'. It sets it's self apart from the other Mac mind mapping tools by aiming more towards a professional output style (something you might show in a formal meeting or presentation).

A year or so ago I needed something to help deal with a set of projects that were suddenly stepping up in complexity - I already had large amounts of working notes, documents, outlines, reference material, contacts, dates, images, etc. and needed a way to glue them together into usable project views that could be quickly edited and navigated.

The first release did have a few glitches and a couple of missing features, but it worked well for me. As the price felt a little steep I tested out the other Mac mind mapping alternatives before purchasing, but came back to MindJet.

Version 7 releases have been glitch free for me, and added an outline view and custom rule filtering - great for reducing a complex map down to just the actions you need to focus on right now.

Mindjet MindManager Reviewthis software DOA, dead on arrival - Version: 7.0.535, 1/19/2008 12:00AM PST

A year a halfago, one reviewer of this poor software said, on loading, 'cant find dictionary,' and the software then refuses to quit and causes crashes... same prob a year and a half later. This is called MINDJET now. No response to my email sent to developer. I'd consider this software a dead end.

Mindjet MindManager ReviewCrazy — can't quit! - Version: 6.0.595, 6/17/2007 08:15AM PST

I launched, looked at the opening splash screen, deselected "show this at startup" and wanted to quit.

Nope. Can't do it. must force-quit.

Want a separate user guide to read? Too bad.

Mindjet MindManager CommentaryWhy better than NovaMind? - Version: 6.0.548, 11/21/2006 06:56AM PST

Can anyone explain why this is better than NovaMind, which appears to do exactly the same for under half the price (and also has an excellent screenwriting option built in for those who want it)?

MindManager ist the best software for organizing projects, plan and distribute tasks, order thoughts and many things more. For a proffessional software the prize ist OK. OmniGraffle Pro ist just about 75$ cheeper and perhaps has more functionality in doing graphics, but for proffesional organizing there are much less features. MM has resources, comments, priorities or deadlines that can be attatched to objects. I like OmniGraffle (I've bought it, too) but theese softwares are not interchangeable. Btw, I had never any crash with MM, but some with OG.

I've been using this on my PC for a LONG time and am grateful they've made a Mac version.

The maps are not platform dependant so I can work on whichever machine I have at hand.

The premier MindManager program on the PC side has finally arrived!

However, having the same price as its PC companion with significantly less features, and some annoying bugs, it might be worth considering alternative Mac mindmapping products.

Support is not very helpful either; the program crashes immediately when opening a new mindmap with a "Alert: Could not contact spell checker" error. The only solution proposed by support was to create a new user account since something must be wrong with the one I am using. Strange, since all other programs work fine in my original account... So, at least for now, the software is unusable to me. Let's hope they figure it out.
