Product Description:

Will automatically check the status of any software/MegaRAID hardware RAID. If a fault is found with the RAID it will generate an email and play a system alert sound. Email alerts are repeatedly sent to the recipients until the error has been resolved.

RAID Monitor will also send an email report every 24-hours to give you peace of mind that the RAID is functioning correctly and the email link between you and your RAID is functioning correctly.

What's new in this version:

  • Added check for missing Security preference from upgraded machines.
  • Internal build numbers are now the same for daemon and GUI - fixes continual email about updates when none are available.
  • SMTP Server fields are now trimmed of whitespace (to prevent accidental space stopping emails from being sent).
  • Help menu fixes - no longer crash when sending feedback or bug reports.
  • More detail in emails generated by Disk I/O errors.
  • check for missing SMTP Port Number from some upgraded machines.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Disk Utility-created RAID or MegaRAID card

RAID Monitor Commentarycrashes and is virtually unusable - Version: 2.6.2, 9/3/2007 08:13AM PST

Downloaded version 2.6.2 for trial on our Mac mini G4 (silent update G4 running on Mac OS X.4.10 client with no extras at all - straight off the box - and used to share iPhoto and iTunes libs plus running one simple apple script to process specific emails) and it reproducibly crashes after a short while of usage. We could not get ot to run long enough to test the email feature, so we gave up.

Nice idea, but appears to be not valuable.

Seeing that Apple had inexplicably neglected to provide a way to automatically monitor OS X RAID arrays, Maza Digital provided this excellent utility to do it via an easy to use interface, even sporting a menubar icon option that instantly shows RAID health and provides immediate access to all functions.

I've used RAID Monitor as well as one of its prefpane-based competitors and RAID Monitor wins hands down. The options are excellent, not only monitoring OS X software RAIDs, but also the Apple-branded MegaRAID XServe RAID5 card and SMART status of the individual drives.

The company is extremely responsive to suggestions and bug reports, and the automatic update capability exceeds that of most commercial software.

As an IT Director concerned about the many unmonitored RAID arrays in my organization, I purchased licenses for all of my OS X enterprise servers and desktop systems running RAID arrays and have been extremely pleased with the quality and feature set of this essential utility as well as with the excellent customer service and responsiveness of the company.

I have no association with the company except as a very satisfied customer.

RAID Monitor CommentaryRuns only with login - Version: 2.5.2, 4/11/2007 11:28PM PST

The software sets the daemon as a startup item for the user with which you install it. This makes it unsuitable for use on an unattended server where no one is logged in. I suppose you could figure out how to get the daemon to run on startup (maybe with Lingon?), but it hasn't been worth my time yet and I feel like it's something the developer should handle.
