spooky Troubleshooting ReportDoesn't work - Version: 1.6.1, 6/16/2008 03:11PM PST

Just tried this out on my machine, running 10.4.11 (all current updates), and had a lot of troubles. I still haven't gotten it to work properly. The issues I saw:

1) Trying to run (or even edit) these scripts on a machine that doesn't have Microsoft Office installed is very difficult--you just keep getting prompted to locate Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I eventually managed to force my way in (by just choosing TextEdit every time I was asked where one of those items was) and comment out the lines that refer to the Office components.

2) After doing that, and saving as an application (so I can just launch it from the dock), whenever I try to run the "spooky.scpt" I get an error that reads: NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4

3) So, next, I tried saving it as a script again and putting it in the AppleScript menu instead of the dock. In that case, nothing happens when I choose the script from that menu. (No error, nothing.)

So I'm stumped, and really disappointed, as I was really hoping this would work (to stop my wife from complaining that the Mac doesn't have a "Maximize" button!)

spooky Troubleshooting ReportCan't live without, now possible problems with Leopard? - Version: 1.6.1, 11/16/2007 10:38PM PST

I have used this for about 6 months and can not live without it! I finally have the ability to MAXIMIZE a Mac window to full screen by a quick keyboard command, just like Windows! I have been looking for this since Mac OS 9 days.
Now that I have installed Leopard and tried setting Spooky back up, it gives an error on first run trying to create and write the preferences file. Darn!

I really need to get this fixed!

This requires a companion app like Quicksilver so you can use hotkeys to launch the script. If you don't want to run Quicksilver, etc. all the time you can use a javascript bookmark to resize Safari windows. Just make a new bookmark called "size" or whatever then put this in the URL field: " javascript:self.moveTo(190,35);self.resizeTo(930,915); " (without the quotes). Just change the numbers across and down to fit what you need. You can make different javascript bookmarks for different sizes and screen positions. I keep the resize bookmarks in my Bookmarks Bar in Safari and click them whenever I want my Safari window to be the size and position I want. If for some reason, the windows don't open where you want them to when you open new windows you can do the resize, then adjust the window in size slightly then back again then all Safari windows will open to that size from then on until you change it or a website specifies a change in size.
