...some of us aren't planning to upgrade to Intel machines for a LONG time. Was this ever backwards-compatible?

Google Importer ReviewSo cool, so many possibilities... - Version: 1.0.1, 5/15/2006 03:32AM PST

An "importer" like this occurred to me as soon as Apple said that Spotlight would be extensible, but I didn't know if it was possible, or how hard it would be to create, so I'm glad someone has done it.

This opens up a world of new possibilities for searching. Particularly if my one feature request is implemented: registering the Google Importer search attribute with Spotlight, so that it would be possible to create a Smart Folder (via File > Find, then choosing Other from the Kind pop-up to select its search attribute type). The latest Google search updates as a Smart Folder, sitting on your desktop.

Just imagine getting results from Google Images, just as you do with your local images - slideshow and previews and all. Or get results from your web-based Gmail account, just like your Mail or Entourage results.

I wonder how soon until Google comes up with their own official version (or sanctions this one), and Yahoo and other search engines jump on board. If nothing else, it could finally be the end of Sherlock (barely breathing as it is).

5 stars for sure. But the logout button does not log you out. You must do it yourself manually.

Google Importer CommentarySimilar to Inquisitor - Version: 1.0.1, 5/14/2006 05:11AM PST

Great Kahuna
IMHO, Inquisitor has the edge because it will use Spotlight to ONLY show the Google results, and in a more complete way.

Note, however, Inquisitor is shareware and the author's pricing mechanism is less than satisfactory.

Very interestig way to enhance Spotlight. It makes searching much more intuitive : for example, as a researcher, I'm always trying to find papers by specific authors. Some I have, disseminated on my HDD, but most are somewhere on the Internet waiting for me. With "Google Importer", I have both worlds displaying in my spotlight menu. This is very good.
I second the other reviewer on the idea of having a separate section, and I would love beign able to customize the search by choosing the search engine (and heaven would be to have the possibility to choose different engines, and have their results display in different sections).

Google Importer ReviewExcellent addition to Spotlight - Version: 1.0.1, 5/13/2006 06:02PM PST

I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet. It works seamlessly with Spotlight to add Google results to your searches. The only improvement I could see to it would be to have Google results show up in their own section rather than under bookmarks.
