Bible-Discovery CommentaryMac GUI Please! Very Expensive! - Version: 2.2, 9/20/2008 04:43PM PST

Developer, if you are going to advertise your product here on VT, I think you would get a more favorable response if you at least had the courtesy to post an image showing your product with a Mac OSX GUI, assuming that it has one. Posting a standard Windows image will not attract very many Mac users, in my view, and some Mac users may even find it offensive.

Also, God's Word, in all its forms, physical, electronic, etc., should be free to the masses. Jesus said "Freely ye have received, freely give". Profiting from God's Word, (what the Bible calls "filthy lucre"), is just plain wrong. You are basically limiting sharing God's Word with those who can afford it. Think about it.

Yes, you can argue that it costs you personally to write the program, but Jesus and His early followers, and many since then, have freely given a lot more, often their own lives, for the furtherance of the Gospel.

I just can't imagine Jesus or His Disciples coming today and going on speaking tours, or book tours, and charging an entrance fee, can you?

It's just my personal opinion based on my knowledge of the Bible. You don't have to agree with it if you don't want to. :)

Bible-Discovery Usage TipThis is a Java application. Double-click the JAR file to use. - Version: 2.0.6, 10/7/2007 01:52PM PST

The link works just fine. The download does include a Windows-style .EXE, but it also contains a double-clickable Java .JAR file which works perfectly fine for me on Mac OS 10.4.10.

Concerning the attack on the Bible about slavery. In the OT times a man might have several wives and a large family. As Joseph in Egypt shows - it was easy to literally starve to death in bad times. A good man might support and give a job for life - and food, to many so called slaves. The OT tells some people would not leave a "master", and refused freedom. This shows the security some felt. To invert your attack (M Diehl) isn't it a sign of God's mercy and forgiveness that if someone chose this - against God's best advice and plans - he would not condemn them, but tried to forgive and help them in such sparce times?
Kidnapping was a very serious sin in the OT and was different. Some people wanted to go into slavery because it was security then. The Bible warns us about people who twist this subject. The NT and OT also have differences about this - as the new covenant teaching looks forward to our times. Why not make this your first bible study with one of these systems. KJV - of course!

What downloaded was a Windows version exe, not app. Must be a wrong link for the Mac platform.

Just one look at the screenshot image confirmed that this really is a *COMPLEX* Bible study tool. So better go www.accordancebible.com and get user-friendly Bible study tool instead. Accordance is The Best for Mac and it's Mac-only.

I downloaded the program and got a Windoze version. Totally useless to me. Why was it listed in the Mac area of Version Tracker?
The files in the folder are, among others equally useless, RUN.bat and BibleDiscovery.exe. Does this look like a Mac program to you?

The VT email lists it as free, here it says shareware. Turns out the free part is apparently not good for anything unless you buy a $29 plugin? Their site isn't all that clear, either.

If the developer is trying to make bible study easier, I wish they would make the same effort for their software.
