Product Description:
BetterZip lets you quickly inspect archives without first extracting their contents.
- Add or extract files via drag-and-drop.
- Create password protected archives (even with WinZip compatibility).
- Delete files from archives.
- Make archives compatible with Windows and Linux systems.
- BetterZip lets you quickly preview image, pdf, html, and text files in a drawer.
What's new in this version:
- Upon popular demand, BetterZip now has an option to make direct extraction the default. When this option is checked, BetterZip will immediately extract archives instead of opening them in a window. Find this new option in the preferences window on the General tab. It's off by default.
- An archive's file format is no longer determined by the file extension, but by analyzing the actual file data. This is more secure and flexible.
- Opening larger archives with thousands of files is a lot faster now.
- Fixed two possible hangs and a number of bugs.
- Enhanced Leopard compatibility.

Works perfectly - great for uncompressed archives

Couldn't be happier.
As a photographer it's essential that I supply my clients with uncompressed image archives. BetterZip does the job seamlessly.

Have just given this another go after trying a long time ago when I was demo'ing different archiving software. It's very good but two things would make it perfect:
1) A contextual menu plugin, so you can extract archives etc all via right click. Another mac archiver, Springy, has this but I prefer BetterZip's GUI.
2) When you open a file from within an archive, edit it and save it, BetterZip should recognise this and give you the option of saving the archive with the edited file. This is pretty standard practice in most archiving software I have used. As it is you have to extract the file, edit it, then manually re-save it into the archive, which is a bit fiddly.

- Worked around a problem with the built-in archive handler in Windows XP and Vista.
