Hello,

- Worked around a problem with the built-in archive handler in Windows XP and Vista.

Thank you very much Robert. That really helps. Great stuff. Rock on!

graphically & sincerely,

Couldn't be happier.

As a photographer it's essential that I supply my clients with uncompressed image archives. BetterZip does the job seamlessly.

BetterZip CommentaryGood but could be better - Version: 1.7.3, 2/21/2009 03:07PM PST

Have just given this another go after trying a long time ago when I was demo'ing different archiving software. It's very good but two things would make it perfect:

1) A contextual menu plugin, so you can extract archives etc all via right click. Another mac archiver, Springy, has this but I prefer BetterZip's GUI.

2) When you open a file from within an archive, edit it and save it, BetterZip should recognise this and give you the option of saving the archive with the edited file. This is pretty standard practice in most archiving software I have used. As it is you have to extract the file, edit it, then manually re-save it into the archive, which is a bit fiddly.

Just a quick note - I downloaded BetterZip because I have a few archives collected I hated to delete, but were apparently damaged in some way. It turns out that in each case, where Stuffit 12 could not open the archive BetterZip could. Apparently in each archive there was a single damaged file . . .

BetterZip CommentaryThis is NOT shareware! - Version: 1.7.1, 7/18/2008 02:09PM PST

That's a croc! This is a plain commercial product with a free trial period (30 days) whereafter its features will be severely curtailed (who knows, maybe you won't even be able to get at your own encrypted files anymore... how's that for arm twisting to buy, eh?).

At the very least this is 'crippleware'.

I don't trust liars.
Especially not with encryption!

This is a great product. It is quick, and it does not suck up resources. I dumped stuffit for BetterZip, and my MBP handles compressed files more efficiently. Try it and you'll buy it. It's worth the small price for great results.

BetterZip ReviewGreat Program - Version: 1.7.1, 6/20/2008 12:05PM PST

BetterZip is the ONLY program I could find that is fully compatible both ways with WinZip on a PC. So I can encrypt files on my Mac and bring them to my work PC, and decrypt them at work. Then I can encrypt files and work, zip them, and send them home to my Mac. I don't know of another program that does this.

The performance is nearly flawless, fast, and there are frequent updates, so support is great. I bought this program a long time ago, and I've always been very satisfied that my money was well spent.

Please keep on selling and supporting this little gem.

This is what Stuffit should be. I rather like this as it has let me so far peer into archive files that Stuffit has never allowed. So instead of paying all that money for the others, this might be the ticket. The interface applies the KISS principle nicely. So far it runs nicely on my system and the 30 day policy is nicely done and unlike others, no AdWare smacking me when I evaluate it.
