I'd really like to try this app but the link is not working, I get taken to

http://www.gapras.co.uk/Semaja2/MultiAlarm.3.4.2.dmg.zip

Where it just loads a blank page and just sits there looking white. Does anyone have another link for this app? Thanks.

MultiAlarm ReviewPretty Nice, But - Version: 3.4, 8/13/2006 07:25AM PST

Although not a beta, ver 3.4 has its share of little quirks, eg some pref changes take right away, others only after you quit and relaunch, etc.

One problem: with MultiAlarm fully enabled to detect motion sensor plus keyboard/mouse, there's currently no way to disarm MultiAlarm without triggering the klaxon or whatever. What's needed is a short delay, like with your run of the mill burglar alarm.

Still, all in all, MultiAlarm fills a real need (for those who use their powerbooks at Starbucks). And the developer seems responsive to suggestions.

MultiAlarm ReviewExcellent Work - Version: 3.3.1, 8/7/2006 05:58AM PST

The developer has done an excellent job of addressing every single problem that I mentioned in my previous post.

Now that it is possible to prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close the lid, this program has become invaluable.

Two things I would still like to see implemented:
1) The volume should be completely locked when the "Screen Lock" is on. I know that it is possible to disable the screen brightness and volume keys, because Apple does this when your screensaver appears (if you use a screensaver password).
2) To reduce Dock clutter, I still like the idea of having this program run in the menu bar or run invisibly in the background and accessed through a keyboard shortcut (similar to QuickSilver.) But this is just a personal preference.

Thanks to the developer for an otherwise outstanding product.

MultiAlarm Troubleshooting ReportBug report - Version: 3.2, 7/30/2006 05:31AM PST

There are still some serious bugs with this program.

1) MultiAlarm asks you for your password when you choose MultiAlarm->Quit MultiAlarm, but it DOESN'T ask you for your password if you just right-click the icon in the dock and choose "Quit". This is a fundamental security flaw for such a program.
2) The program increases the volume IN PHASES when the alarm goes off: it doesn't stay set to the maximum level. This means that if you decrease the volume using the button on your laptop (F4 on my Japanese iBook), the program will slowly increase the volume back to the maximum, however, it doesn't increase it fast enough. It's therefore possible to mute the alarm if you use the "decrease volume" button fast enough, which is exactly what I imagine an attacker would try first in response to the alarm.
3) Because the program appears in the dock, it is easy for an attacker to tell that the program is running (if they are at all familiar with it). This would possibly be useful as a deterrent if MultiAlarm were secure, but it's not. See bug #1. Because I hide my dock, however, it's not so useful for me. I believe this program would be better (and clutter u pmy dock less) if it ran in the menu bar.
4) I'm unable to change my alarm sound. No matter which one I select, I always get "lost.mp3".
5) I'm unable to set a custom background image. (I tried using a custom-made 1024 by 768 background and it just wouldn't show.) I always get the black screen with the lock.

Of course, in all likelihood, if someone steals your laptop, they're going to close it first anyway, so the whole thing is kind of moot.

MultiAlarm ReviewDon't forget to adjust sensivity - Version: 3.1, 6/4/2006 02:53PM PST

Work exactly as advertised on my MacBook Pro even with the screen closed when plug to an external monitor. If the alarm start just after arming, adjust the sensivity in the preferences.
