A nice enough idea, but...

it's just not realized very effectively. The rain looks rather cartoonish, and the sound effects—although quite nice—stutter occasionally during looping (which they really shouldn't on a 2 GHZ dual core intel system). The snow doesn't look too different from the rain (perhaps the ability to adjust the size of the flakes might help here), but the greatest weakness is that while snow effects are accompanied by the sound of strong winds, the flakes still come down vertically. This would be much more impressive if they flew across the screen at an angle that increased with the strength of the wind!
So, being free (with the essential features), this screensaver is certainly nice for the price, but some improvements might actually make it worth money.

Check out 'Snowsaver' for a good example of how quartz graphics can be implemented cleanly and elegantly. Actually, check out any screensaver made by Futurismo Zugakousaku, who has a few savers listed here and several more on his site at www.zugakousaku.com. Screen savers don't have to be clunky-looking CPU hogs.
So, Developer, if you're reading this: I am a guy who regularly buys shareware, and I want to buy products like those you make, but as long as they're so badly designed, you will never make a sale from me.
