Parallels Desktop for Mac is the first solution that gives Apple users the ability to run Windows, Linux or any other operating system and their critical applications at the same time as Mac OS X on any Intel-powered iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook or MacBook Pro. Unlike dual-boot solutions, in which users must completely shut down Mac OS X and endure a full OS start-up cycle to access a important application, Parallels Desktop for Mac empowers users with the ability to run important Windows programs like Outlook, Access, Internet Explorer and all other applications without having to give up the usability and functionality of their Mac OS X machine even for a few minutes.

What's new in this version:

OpenGL and DirectX 3D graphics, to play games like Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft and Quake, and use important productivity software like ESRI and AutoCAD directly in virtual machines
Snapshots, which "bulletproof" your VM by allowing you to save your VMs state and instantly revert back to that state at any time. It's literally like an eraser for mishaps and mistakes!
SmartSelect, a cool new feature that lets you assign any Windows or OS X application to open up any class of file from either OS. For example, set Word for Windows to handle .doc, .rtf and .txt files from both OSes, and work with email in Apple Mail, even if you click a "mailto:" in Windows. We're talking total file and application integration across both OSes.
Security Manager: A built in management tool that helps users customize the level of interaction between Windows and OS X, including how and when files can be shared between OSes, if “drag and drop�? is enabled or disabled, and when hard disks and devices are mounted and accessible.
Parallels Explorer: View and modify the contents of your Windows virtual hard drive even when your VM is OFF! Drag files to and from the virtual hard drive, move or re-name existing files and create new folders on the fly. Great if you need to diagnose a problem, or get something into or out of your VM on short notice.
Vista Boot Camp Support: Yep, its here! Use your Windows Vista Boot Camp or Windows XP Boot Camp partition in a Parallels virtual machine. Switch between running Windows in Parallels Desktop and Boot Camp as often as you want!

Petition to lower upgrade price! - Version: 5.0, 11/13/2009 04:39AM PST

If you think the $50 upgrade price is far too much for this product, please sign the petition linked below. Also, please spread the word! Parallels may consider lowering the upgrade price if they see people aren't willing to pay $50 each time there's a new release. It may also show them that we're thinking of switching to their competitor(s) who offer better pricing for upgrades.

After having run Parallels 5 for a week, Parallels 4 for 6 months, I can't see much difference, and certainly nothing worth paying for - especially since Parallels 5 has more problems than 4. With 5, Outlook is unable to get calendar information from the Exchange server, to enable you to schedule meetings; it just gets "free/busy" errors. I made no changes other than reverting to 4, with the same virtual machine, and it now works again.

I'm asking for my money back :)

Hi after installing parallels 5 run directly in the BSOD no of the fixes helps. The whole forum of Paralles is ful of users with the same Problem. Parallels Support try s to waste some time but have finally no help. VM Ware runns perfect also, bootcamp itself Sorry to say but this Update is not worth any single cent So do not use this Update until they have a better version then 5.0.9920
