Parallels Desktop CommentaryPetition to lower upgrade price! - Version: 5.0, 11/13/2009 04:39AM PST

If you think the $50 upgrade price is far too much for this product, please sign the petition linked below. Also, please spread the word! Parallels may consider lowering the upgrade price if they see people aren't willing to pay $50 each time there's a new release. It may also show them that we're thinking of switching to their competitor(s) who offer better pricing for upgrades.

Parallels Desktop ReviewProblems with Exchange server/Outlook Calendar - Version: 5.0, 11/10/2009 07:02PM PST

After having run Parallels 5 for a week, Parallels 4 for 6 months, I can't see much difference, and certainly nothing worth paying for - especially since Parallels 5 has more problems than 4. With 5, Outlook is unable to get calendar information from the Exchange server, to enable you to schedule meetings; it just gets "free/busy" errors. I made no changes other than reverting to 4, with the same virtual machine, and it now works again.

I'm asking for my money back :)

Hi after installing parallels 5 run directly in the BSOD no of the fixes helps. The whole forum of Paralles is ful of users with the same Problem. Parallels Support try s to waste some time but have finally no help. VM Ware runns perfect also, bootcamp itself Sorry to say but this Update is not worth any single cent So do not use this Update until they have a better version then 5.0.9920

Parallels Desktop ReviewPoor performance - poor incremental features - Version: 5.0, 11/5/2009 06:00PM PST

The parallels people seem to have delivered (to me at least) a reworked GUI in the mac application but little other change.

They have added funky animations and new icons and screens.

Unfortunately to me, the performance is worse than v4. Decidedly worse.

As always they add options and turn them on by default. If I want virtual disk auto compression I want to be able to turn it on rather than have to scramble to turn it off!

Overall I am not impressed.

If you are encountering the dreaded BSOD and IRQL error this worked for me.

http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=95571

Just change the CPU to 1 and start the VM. After Parallel tools installs and the reboot is done turn off the VM, and change the CPUs back to 2.

Everything worked great after upgrading, seems to be faster and steadier. I too think the fee was excessive but all in all a great program.

I just upgraded to PD 5 a few hours ago, and all I have when I try to run Windows is a blue screen telling me I have to reboot in safe mode or no failure mode. But this does not help.

Parallels Desktop CommentaryInsulted by their upgrade price - Version: 5.0, 11/5/2009 05:13AM PST

I paid $50 less than a year ago to upgrade to version 4, and $80 for version 3. Though I do prefer Parallels Desktop over the other options out there, I find it ridiculous and somewhat insulting that they'll charge $50 for the upgrade. Honestly version 4 is working just fine and does all that I need, I too would be willing to upgrade to version 5 for no more than $30.

Anyone want to start a petition so that Parallels can understand that they're charging way too much for a performance revision? We paid only $30 for Apple's performance revision (Snow Leopard) and got a whole lot more out of it.

Let me know any I'll look into that online petition thing.

I wish I had gone with one of the other alternatives. After installing Parallels 5, nothing works. It tells me that there is no system present or that WIndows won't start or several other error messages. 20 minutes ago all was well in v4. THere is no free phone support and the whole thing stinks. What a piece of crap. If you haven't made the mistake of starting with Parallels, go with something else.

Parallels Desktop ReviewUpgrade price of $50 is excessive. - Version: 5.0, 11/4/2009 07:19PM PST

I too purchased v.4 not long ago at its full price, in May of 2009. Asking me for $50 now to upgrade to v. 5 is excessive.

V. 4 is working adequately for me in Snow Leopard. If v.5 is worth it, I might consider paying $30, but that is my line-in-the-sand. Particularly since I recently paid for the full v.4.

My 1 star poor rating is based entirely on the upgrade price, not on the functionality of either v. 4 or 5.
