Product Description:

More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.

For your convenience, Boot Camp burns a CD with all the Mac-specific drivers for Windows:
  • Graphics
  • Networking
  • Audio
  • AirPort wireless
  • Bluetooth
  • The Eject key (on Apple keyboards)
  • Brightness control for built-in displays
This CD also installs a Startup Disk control panel for Windows. To find it, look for Startup Disk in the Performance and Maintenance section of the Windows XP Control Panel.

What's new in this version:

As reported by MacFixIt:

Unfortunately, Apple has provided no documentation regarding enhancements in this release. The disk image download itself has a modification date of July 10th (yesterday) at 9:17 AM, but the files therein -- including BootCampAssistant.pkg, the installer for the Boot Camp Assistant -- carries a modification date of June 19th.

It is presumed that this update includes revised versions of the Windows XP Mac drivers, so you should burn a new drivers disk (using Boot Camp Assistant) after installing the Boot Camp update, then boot into Windows XP and re-install drivers.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later
  • Intel-based Mac
  • The latest firmware update for your Intel Mac
  • A genuine installation disc for Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2, Home or Professional (no multi-disc, upgrade or Media Center versions)
  • A blank recordable CD

Apple Boot Camp CommentaryThis download is an .exe file, it doesn't "run" on Mac OS 10.5 - Version: 2.1, 6/5/2009 08:51AM PST

So the operating system it runs on is not really Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, but Windows itself. If you want the BootCamp assistant that runs on Mac OS X Leopard to set up a Windows partition, then it only comes with the Leopard disc itself

If this is the 1st software on the top downloads list... so, what Mac today is??? Software like this makes Mac the same calculator as PCs are.
BTW: Anything that can be done on pc-windowz can also be totally done on Mac with Mac OS (requires opened mind)...
