Stapler - 1.1

This is an odd little application that is rapidly becoming quite useful. It looks like an outliner, but it refuses to act like one, which might exasperate at first. I didn't understand the app until I created a document with several entries and then looked inside the package that was my file. There I saw an RTFD file for each of my entries. The metaphor works something like this. You have a stack of individual documents "stapled" together in one file, and, when the entries are closed, you can see the first line or so of each one, depending on your font size. Each document (or "entry", if you are thinking outliner) has a created date and a check box. Checking the box will change the color of the frame of your entry. This might not be the next big thing, but it is different enough that it might just suit your style. (Check their forums for other users' takes on it. Documentation for Stapler is, unfortunately, nonexistant.) The price is certainly reasonable (less than US$10). And there is no nag screen or serial number entry, so you can take as long as you like to play with it and see if you really want to part with your money. (Shareware the old way, like Tex-Edit Plu.s) There's no risk of getting locked in with your data either, since the entries are really RTFD files. The feature set is still a bit too minimal, which the developers know. But it's a 1.0 release. By the way, their flagship product, Ulysess, is stable, never crashes. I expect the same will prove true of Stapler.
