Product Description:

CUPS-PDF is an open-source backend module for CUPS (Mac OS X's printing system) by Volker C. Behr that, rather than printing to a device, prints straight to PDF files.

Why use this rather than a simple "Save as PDF" in the print dialog?

  • Pressing return is faster.
  • Batch-print through the writer to convert documents to PDF.
  • Common save location for all generated PDFs.

What's new in this version:

Version 2.4.0 (from 2.0.5):
  • fixed possible read access after end of string
  • fixed recognition of international characters
  • experimental option to decode hex strings in title (NK)
  • new option to remove prefixes from usernames
  • minor bugfix to read umasks properly
  • new option to select where to look for title
  • some code changes and optimizations
Now a universal binary for PPC and Intel Macs.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 or later
    Universal Binary

CUPS-PDF CommentaryCan't get it to work - Version: 2.4.6.1, 9/30/2009 03:31AM PST

I can't seem to get it to work. It doesn't show up when I add printer not even with the option button as in the documentation. I know the files are there because I checked.

CUPS-PDF CommentaryNothing happened!! - Version: 2.4.6.1, 3/11/2009 09:19PM PST

This app needs to come with some sort of user manual. I installed it (twice), but after install it was nowhere to be found on my computer. Tried printing something as PDF and all the same old options were there but no new ones. As far as I can tell, this software doesn't really exist. Any other options? I have a really long PDF file I need to generate, & Apple's built-in option will not do it.

CUPS-PDF ReviewSuper Handy! - Version: 2.4.6.1, 1/14/2008 02:19PM PST

Went to use Adobe's PDF 7.0 Virtual Printer on my MacBook today for the first time and it didn't work, returning all sorts of odd errors. As best I can see from them it's an issue with running on Intel vs PPC. My version of Creative Suite (CS2) pre-dates the Intel machines and with several other things in CS2, like Version Cue, it seems it no longer works.

Enter this handy dandy freeware driver! A breeze to install, easy to use (just select it from the printer pull-down in your print window), works great...might add a way to designate the folder but otherwise perfect! I'd highly recommend it!

Thanks!!
