Product Description:

Bin-it: a desktop trash can providing quick and easy access to the OS X Trash. Features include:
  • Desktop Trash: Keep a floating trash can on your desktop - not hidden in the Dock;
  • Trash Level Display: Your trash icon changes depending on how much is in the trash (your trash isn't just empty or full, so why is your icon?);
  • Adjustable: Select from multiple trash styles and change size, opacity and other settings. Take control of your Trash!
From the Author: I guess that like a lot of people, I miss the old / classic wastebasket / trash desktop icon (pre-OSX). Other applications I've tried which provide a desktop icon have been a little clunky (or maybe I just haven't found the right one?). I've writen a cocoa application rather than a script, so it is open in the background, ready to kick into action when you drag and drop. It can be added to your startup items (see the readme file) and be there every time you log in. I've tried to mimic the behaviour of the original wastebasket - it darkens when you are about to drop a file (or files) and shows a 'full' or 'empty' icon as appropriate. Let me know what you think!

What's new in this version:

  • Adds sounds to OS8 and OSX themes
  • Adds option in preferences to switch built-in and custom sounds on or off
  • Adds option to disable keyboard shortcut command-Q for quit (requested by a user)

Bin-it ReviewImpressive - Version: 1.5.2, 6/28/2008 05:28AM PST

I'm using the 1.5.2 demo right now. Looking for an alternative to the now Leopard-incompatible iCan, I am really enjoying Bin-It. I like the Themes feature (I plan to use the themes from iCan). I like the customizable labels.

Wish list:
1. A "Smart Empty" function like iCan, where I could delete selected trash items.
2. A "Show Menu Bar Only" and a "Show in Dock Only" choice. I like the menu bar. But I don't want it in the Dock.
3. A capture "Apple+Delete" option. When I use the keyboard shortcut to empty the trash, I get the uninformative OSX dialog.
4. A function to "extact" themes from iCan.

Yeah me too, Disk Utility, Entourage, Firefox, all refuse to open. Let's hope it gets sorted soon, because I like this utility.
