This is a GREAT application for Graphic Designers!!!
Automatically reduces image files sizes so you can have a much smaller file to send to the printer. It also may RIP better with fewer problems for them.

PLEASE... Anyone interested in this product should read all of the reviews AND the responses to the feedback. dc_Graphic Designer seems to have some kind of personal vendetta here. He appears to be clueless about the field of graphic design and yet repeatedly posts negative comments and reviews here. If you read the other reviews (mostly by professionals), you will find that this is a very stable and useful application that DOES perform exactly as advertised.

dc_Graphic Designer claims to be a "university professor." If he really is, he seems to be precisely the pompous and arrogant type of personality that gives academia a bad name.

LinkOptimizer Developer NoteRegarding the dc_Graphic Designer feedback - Version: 3.1.6, 9/2/2008 04:43PM PST

First, just wanted to thank the LinkOptimizer users for explaining the university professor some basics of desktop publishing. I can understand his frustration - he thought that LinkOptimizer optimized GIFs, but it, obviously, didn't (and never will).

But first - he had 15 days to try the demo and make sure the program does what he expected. And second, it's unclear what gains exactly he expected to achieve from "optimizing" GIFs. Regarding his other feedback - the problems he mentioned have never been reported by other users (except for the large off-pasteboard images, which is fixed).

I'm not sure why instead of just clicking the Support button and get the problem resolved, he would take the time to post the VersionTracker feedback. This won't solve any of his problems for sure - but will only demonstrate his childish anger and negativity to everybody.

Sincerely,

Leo Revzin

Program will "freeze" if the images in the InDesign document are in "locked position."

LinkOptimizer Usage Tipcrashes when it encounters PDFs - Version: 3.1.5, 8/19/2008 04:01PM PST

The program will crash when it encounters a PDF.

Why not add the option to toggle what suffix types to ignore in the settings? i.e. .pdf, .gif, etc.

LinkOptimizer Reviewdoesn't work - Version: 3.1.5, 8/17/2008 09:56PM PST

Had this program for over a year and I have not been able to get it to work once! Currently working on a book design with 226 images and it crashes on the same image (a tif) every time. Then, when you try to "debug" the image (as if there can be something wrong with a plain old tif), the program goes though re-copying every image, adding another prefix, and makes you click on every already processed image and asks if you want to replace it rather than have the option to ignore already processed images.

This program is such a waste of time and money!

LinkOptimizer Reviewhas bugs - Version: 3.0.2, 10/20/2007 06:51PM PST

1) LinkOptimizer cannot handle GIF images. (If you plan on using the final output as a PDF, the what type of originating file should not matter, but up front documentation when paying $130 would be aprreciated if not expected.)

2) Crashes when it encounters a very large sized image that is off the pasteboard--and any image that is off the pasteboard. This crash then causes you to restart the whole process all over again.

I would NOT recommend this program.

Excellent program! Version 2 is well ahead of the previous v1.x with a string of improvements. If you switched from Quark to InDesign, now you can switch from DocuSlim to LinkOptimizer. I'm stoked with this app ... and considering buying shares in the dev's company ;)

LinkOptimizer CommentaryGreat support - Version: 1.5b4, 5/28/2006 01:09PM PST

I've just been through about 24 hours of problem-solving with the developer, based on the "problem" of numbered folders that I reported below.

Seems the problem was between me (who renamed the folder in question -- and it just happened to be with a number) and InDesign, which was able to find the image files within the renamed folder, but didn't update the path information in the Link Information dialogue box to reflect the new folder name.

I relinked the images, and voila!

Thus my five-star rating is doubly applicable, on the grounds that the product is brilliant, and the support unparalleled.

When I first detected the problem, the author responded within hours, and kept responding until the problem was solved.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. The only drawback is that it won't work on rotated images or images in iregular shaped frames. But this thing rocks so far. I say so far because I have just done a little testing with it and will test it more , but so far no problems at all.
