Product Description:

Tag is a metadata editor for FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Monkey's Audio and WavPack files.

Tag has an intuitive interface that simplifies common editing tasks while also allowing direct manipulation of tags. Tags can be dragged between files, or Tag can even add all the tags contained in one file to another in one fell swoop.

For files with incomplete or missing metadata, Tag can guess tag values by matching the filename to a user-defined pattern. Alternatively, Tag can rename files by substituting tag values into a user-defined pattern.

Need to make many parallel changes? No problem! Tag can edit multiple files simultaneously, eliminating repetition and saving time.

For advanced users Tag features customizable mappings that allow you to specify which tags are mapped to the various fields in the user interface.

Tag is free software released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Tag CommentaryThis looks good but....... - Version: 0.4.1, 9/29/2008 07:34PM PST

This looks good but setting itself up as the default app for opening flacs and not letting you change that is a major deal breaker. Too bad.

Tag ReviewFast, Simple, Great - Version: 0.4.1, 1/13/2007 01:21PM PST

Tag is a wonderful and fast application for renaming flac files and editing tag data. Starting from files with no tag data named with track# and title, it takes about 20-30 seconds to tag a whole album, provided the necessary information is handy. The file rename is so fast it's barely noticeable.

The only things I found remotely annoying were that it sets itself as the default app for opening files and that it doesn't work for mp3s. Maybe someday, eh?

This software has the potential to be a extremely handy, audio tagging tool. I've recently moved over from PC to MAC and I've been looking for a piece of audio tagging software that's on par with Tag & Rename on Windows. It's not quite there yet, for the following reasons.

Doesn't recognise APEv1 tag fields on APE files that have already been tagged using other software. After re-entering the information, the tags then become unrecognisable and uneditable on other programs.

After installing the software it automatically selects itself as the default program for opening audio files
including APE,Ogg, FLAC, WV. It then stops you from selecting another default programs instead, even after restarting the computer.

Even though you can edit APEv2 tags in WV files, the software doesn't recognise MPC files.

You can't edit tags on AAC/M4A/MP4 files or WMA.

I hope the software developers can sort out these glitches. This software's got great potential, but I can't fully recommend it.
