The two times I've had kernel panics after a software update was because I'd stupidly left a USB device plugged in.
Perhaps there should be a reminder flagged up with each update.

G5 tower would not restart after update.

I never had this happen before and I have used Macs for well over a decade.

Also there was no spinning progress indicator.

I waited around ten minutes and finally did a hard restart.

Makes me wonder how many other things Apple missed.
