I used VLC for almost 2 years for all my video files QuickTime couldn't play or play without sound . I just got frustrated with all the crashes and bad subtitile handling from VLC and I decided to do a search on versiontracker for any other AVI player . I came across Chroma Player . I tried all the files and DVD folders I knew as not working . I was amazed to see they all work seamlessly . Excellent audio synchronization , great subtitile handling.
flawless

Chroma is by far the best video file player I've come across, and I've used them all. It automatically detected the subtitle file and now I can watch all of my foreign films without the crash of VLC (which seems to crash every time I use it anyway, subtitles or not!!).
also, NO SUPPORT for .sub files!!!

I've tried everything to play my wife's Korean AVI's with english subtitles so I can understand too. Some of them were damaged and would kill VLC. I had resigned myself to using GOMplayer in Windows via Boot Camp when I found this. I thought GOm was the best out there for any platform, and I was wrong!

Well after searching for hours for a straightforward avi player for Mac this suits me fine and am willing to pay the $22.00 to keep it. I don't know of any other players that would work anyway. I just didn't see how to go about purchasing if you wanted to
perfect for G3's

The value is in the fact that on a G3, it doesn't drop a single frame.
None of VLC, Mplayer or Xineplayer can do that.
It might be using quicktime underneath, but it works like a charm on my g3, Quicktime cannot even play the darn thing without going into audio and video sync problems and dropping frames.

As other people have already pointed out there are a number of free video players on Mac OS with many of the same features and sometimes more features (e.g. VLC).
What this player lacks in features vs. VLC (Playlist, audio channel selection etc.) it makes up for in it's polished interface and truely excellent decoding quality. Videos look slightly better than VLC, sync is the best I've seen on Mac OS and I clocked CPU usage as taking half of what VLC required. In fact if you have a low end mac this is THE player for you. If you don't have a low end mac then you need to consider how much you like the interface of this program and also how important some of the neat features such as IntelliAspect (which usefullness varies) and Apple Remote Support are to you.
I liked the quality of the program, the video quality, low CPU usage and the regular updates (thus far) so I decided to purchase the program.
It definately isn't something every user should run out and buy, but I think it's a quality program which for some users is worthwhile.

I hope the next versions will add playlist support. If you like me are anal about type (and if you're using a mac you should be) and view a lot of movies with subtitles then Chroma is the player for you.
