So quick and simple to create the archive. Will open all windows created 7z and windows will open all 7z files created with 7zX. Couldn't have it better!

7zX Review7zX works better than the finder's compression - Version: 1.7.1, 4/14/2008 06:01PM PST

While you can right click on a file and create a .zip archive in the Finder, 7zX with drag and drop to the icon in the Dock is almost as easy and it does compress more than the Finder's zip. And you can't beat the price. 2 thumbs up.

7zX ReviewOne of the tools from the box "must have" for your Mac - Version: 1.7.1, 3/15/2008 05:19AM PST

Great (and known by professionals from years) compression format. Now GUIed on OSX. Better then any idiots' format, like for example ".sit" (that is commercial and that is dead, just like OS9,8,7,... are dead). If someone tries to compress just compressed jpg, pdf etc., he/she probably should switch to Windows - it's a fantastic environment to make problems harder.

I took the 172 KB quick start pdf that comes with it and did the drag and drop, using ultra and self extracting archiver. Then I did a get info on that and the size was 4.0 MB.

I'm guessing that's not a good idea, unless someone that you are sending it to has no application to expand an archive, and if that's the cause then I find it hard to believe that they would know how to turn a computer on, let alone use one.

Now I just tried the 172 KB file only on ultra and it took it to 144 KB. There was no difference in size from ultra to normal 144 KB. It appears that it's the same no matter what setting. The different settings decides for itself what format .rar .sit or whatever.

I wonder how well it works with AppZapper.

7zX ReviewGood program - Version: 1.6.7, 12/13/2007 07:30AM PST

I've only used the latest version, but I think it's quite good. 7zx is a slow compression method, but creates extremely small files--the speed isn't related to the program, per se. Additionally, this program has useful mac options, like preserving resource forks and removing invisible mac files. It would be nice to not have to drag it onto the icon--I'm not sure why this is necessary, but a small gripe. Thumbs up.

I need some help with 7zx--tried to open a 7z archive on my external hd using drag and drop, and the app got started extracting the thousands of files inside.

However, the files were not extracted into that folder on the ext hd, but rather to my startup disk (which soon reached capacity and complained of being full). I cancelled the process, but now can't find where the files have been extracted (can't even find them through search--are they saved in some temp format?). Please help, I've essentially lost 1+gb of free space and don't know where it's gone.

7zX CommentaryIt "compressed" my file into a BIGGER file. - Version: 1.6.4, 7/29/2007 10:19PM PST

File full of pictures = 73.5 megs. "Compressed" file from 7zX = 76megs. WTF? What's the point of a "compression" program that makes a BIGGER file?

Garbage.

Just a note to those people who said 7zX wasn't working for them. You have to drag files and drop them on the 7zX icon for it to work and work it will. I tested compressing a text file, a graphic image and a folder of mixed files. Everything went off without a hitch. Combine 7zX with The Unarchiver (see http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30810 ) and you'll be as happy as a clam. Stuff it, Stuffit.
