Product Description:

SOHO Notes is the premier digital note-taking application for Macintosh. Use it to capture, organize, and share all of your personal and workgroup information. It can store rich text, PDF's, images, files, movies, audio, bookmarks, and web archives. Synchronize notes between multiple computers, iPod's, and Palm handhelds. SOHO Notes is as equally suitable for the sole proprietor with a single computer as the small business with a few dozen networked computers. This all new note manager is based on a commercial database engine for high-performance and reliability. Its client/server design makes SOHO Notes ideal for anything that needs to be shared such as meeting notes, confidential company documents, employee handbooks, approved company artwork and logos, product plans, marketing campaign documents, etc. Sharing notes is easy with its manageable user access privileges.

What's new in this version:

  • A URL can be entered directly into a Web Archive note to create a web archive
  • Added ability to drag a URL from a web browser into a Web Archive note to create a web archive
  • Non-text note types can now be exported via drag and drop
  • Exported file(s) inherit the created and modified dates of the original note(s)
  • You can now import non-text files and have the appropriate note (image, pdf, movie, etc) created for it
  • The software update system now provides additional information regarding cost and system requirements of updates
  • Fixed crash that would sometimes occur when synchronizing an offline database to the server database
  • Searches containing brackets [] will now work correctly
  • Fixed problem where certain web archives wouldn't load correctly after being saved
  • Inserted dates and times now correctly use the International preference setting and don't include seconds
  • Improved performance of SOHO Notes when content is grabbed using contextual menu, etc.
  • Fixed problem that temporarily prevented the Finder's Trash from emptying after dragging a file into a note
  • The collapsed note attribute is now correctly saved
  • Fixed several problems related to QuickNote folders menu so it won't appear blank
  • Added warning in the Sync preference pane to notify user that enabling note syncing while disabling contact syncing may break note to contact links
  • Added ability to synchronize the created and modified dates for notes
  • Added the SOHO Sync version number to the sync log
  • Increased the timeout of sync sessions from 30 seconds to 1 hour to avoid dropped sync sessions
  • Made major performance optimization to the synchronization of contact and calendar multi-value data
  • Added a workaround to the Sync Services bug where sync sessions that take longer than 10 minutes to start are inadvertently dropped
  • Added a workaround for an Apple bug where cleared addresses, phone numbers, etc. cause Apple's Address Book sync client to quit mid-sync
  • Fixed problem synchronizing addresses, phone numbers, etc when the contact itself hadn't yet been synced
  • Fixed problem where some attendees attached to events showed up as "common name" instead of their real name
  • Fixed problem where adding an attendee to an event in a shared database sometimes resulted in the wrong attendee being synchronized
  • Added support for Palm handhelds that use Chinese and other encodings
  • Fixed bug that would cause unexpected crashes

SOHO Notes ReviewMuch much better than you would think from other reviews - Version: 8.08, 11/25/2009 09:04AM PST

I know that it's fashionable to knock Chronos, and I also know from bitter experience that in the past most of that criticism has been justified. However I have to say that SOHO Notes is an immense improvement on their previous products.

I have been searching for a notes application to replace my much-loved copy of NotePad Deluxe (not Intel native and has some problems with SL) for a while now, and of all of them out there (and there are quite a few) SOHO Notes is the best by quite a long way. The UI is excellent, the feature set is extremely comprehensive, it's fast, and best of all the app itself is very stable.

I have had minor problems; FlashNote quits on occasion and an issue with form notes which are encrypted losing their data, but other than that it really is excellent. It's not perfect (I've got a long list of suggestions!) but it is better than any other notes app at present that I have looked at.

Just for the record - this version does not use OpenBase but Apple's CoreData, which is fast and stable. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, there is a lot of detailed info on their blog as to why the iPhone app, NoteLife, is not out yet, and it really doesn't look like it's Chronos' fault but down to Apple's cumbersome review process. Take a look at http://www.chronosnet.com/blog/index.html.

SOHO Notes ReviewSupport/Application - Version: 8.08, 11/24/2009 01:05PM PST

In contrast to the previous posters, my experience with support has been relatively good, except for the post-Version 8 launch time frame.

With respect to Notelife, if you read the blog on their web site, you'll see that the delays have all been related to the App Store approval process, and they're pretty up front about the delays.

I've been using this app since StickyBrain days, and no matter how many other note takers/organizers I try I keep coming back to this one because it is, IMO, the best, most comprehensive solution to my needs.

Is it a Five-Star app? Probably not, but there have been so many mean-spirited reviews on VT about this company that I feel compelled to provide some counterpoint. It is at least a 4.5-star app right now, and when Notelife is incorporated, it'll be awesome.

SOHO Notes ReviewSupport is non-existent - Version: 8.07, 11/19/2009 02:54PM PST

OK, see my earlier reply to the "Support MIA" post. But, just got a note from Chronos saying they are *40* days out on support replies!!

Be warned - the product is reasonably good (though the companion app "Notelife" for the iPhone is still vaporware months after it's announcement), but you will not get any support from the company.
