Product Description:

Using NetMap, network administrators can easily visualize an overview of established network devices and access a single source of data for software licenses, system versions and login information. Additionally, NetMap can be used to manage user requests for repairs or upgrades through a built-in messaging system. NetMap is an asset management tool that affords network administrators convenient and organized access to information about the network they manage; saving time and making the information technology process more efficient.

What's new in this version:

  • NetMap is now compiled as a universal binary application for Macintosh systems.
  • Hard returns are now allowed in the item note field.
  • Deleting links between network items is now more intuitive. Links can be selected by clicking on them and deleted with the delete key.
  • Upgrades in the software panel are now displayed in a separate box.
  • A new field has been added into the network properties to accommodate the MAC address of a NetMap device.
  • The state of several menu items (e.g., grid, snap-to-grid, view links, etc.) are now saved with each NetMap file.
  • The map preferences window now allows for the selection of a background image to help in organizing network layouts. This can be used to show building layouts or the like in order to convey the physical location of network items more easily.
  • The menu option "Print Map Image" allows for the printing of the NetMap network image only.
  • The statistics panel now has a chart display to graphically display one of three statistics for the current map file. Available options include storage use/capacity, types of software, and types of systems.
  • The software panel now has additional fields to store a software manufacturer's information.
  • Software items can now have site licenses or an unlimited number of users. Software with an unlimited number of users shows up under the software list of all users.
  • A number of minor bug squashes and display issues.
  • Corrected some localization errors (thanks again to our European users!).

NetMap ReviewSimple and promising - Version: 1.2, 8/21/2007 12:24PM PST

I looked through many software on WIn and Mac platform even Visio, but this is what comes the closest to my wishes. I hope the developer will further work on it and implements the feature requests made by the users.

It would be great if you could ad some files to each device, e.g. router configurations etc.

NetMap ReviewNice application with some limitations - Version: 1.2, 8/28/2006 07:32AM PST

Netmap is a nice application and the basic idea of a graphical asset-manager is great. But there are some limitations which should really be removed:
- It is not possible to rezise a window by drag n' drop. Instead you have to use a "Page resize" command in the menu bar. Really weird in my opinion ...
- Many forms have a limited number of characters which is especially disturbing when you have to note a username or a password.
- There's no undo command.
- It's great that you can use Netmap to note a e-mail-account and the appropriate password. But what happens, when there's more than one account on one computer?
- I think there should be more forms that can be defined by the users themselves. Netmap would be perfect if you could define your own Items with the corresponding forms (e.g. router, printserver, server, different types of workstations etc.)
- Integration of Netmap in a VNC-application (selectable by the user) would be great.
- Customizable e-mail-messages.
