Product Description:

Spotlight is a feature of Mac OS X version 10.4 that enables fast and accurate searches for files, folders and documents on your computer. For more information about the Spotlight feature, visit the Apple® Computer Web site at www.apple.com. The QuarkXPress Filter for Spotlight enhances the capabilities of the Spotlight feature. Use it to search contents of QuarkXPress documents such as text, font names, style sheets, and layouts on your computer. If you are using a version of QuarkXPress earlier then QuarkXPress 6, you can only search for text in QuarkXPress documents. Other features are available to users of QuarkXPress 6 and later. The QuarkXPress Filter for Spotlight runs only on Mac OS platforms. Important note: QuarkXPress versions 3–6 are not certified for Mac OS® X version 10.4. The QuarkXPress Filter for Spotlight enables searches in QuarkXPress documents that have a .qxp or .qxd extension.

What's new in this version:

You can find files created in QuarkXPress versions 3–5 by searching for text. You can find files created in QuarkXPress 6 using additional search options. For more information, see the ReadMe file. Important note: QuarkXPress versions 3–6 are not certified for Mac OS® X version 10.4.

I installed this Spotlight filter with high hopes. It certainly would be a great benefit for us to be able to search inside Quark files by content through Spotlight. It, unfortunately, exacerbates the dreaded XPress autosave bug. With this installed, XPress leaves .a$v files around that can not be emptied from the trash. In addition, files that you think you saved because you did a cmd-S are not always saved, losing hours of work sometimes.

There is not an uninstall with this, instead you have to read the documentation very carefully and find the mention of the two files that it installs and then manually delete these files. When I deleted them and logged out and in again, the problems disappeared.

To make it worse, the technician at Quark told me that I would have to buy the upgrade to XPress 7 in order to get the autosave bug fixed!
