Flip4Mac WMV ReviewTO INSTALL WITHOUT SILVERLIGHT..... - Version: 2.3.0.14, 11/4/2009 01:56AM PST

Kudrabar
Right-click (or Command-click) on the Flip4Mac 2.3.0.14 installer and Show Package Contents. Then just delete the Silverlight installer! It worked fine for me on a Late-2008 10.6.1 Intel MacBook. WMVs play in QuickTime, and when I double-click on a WMV file in the Finder it opens in QuickTime. It is unecessary, and both Microsoft and Telestream are friggin' EVIL for sneaking it into this app.

Flip4Mac WMV CommentaryCreating Silverlight with Flip4Mac - Version: 2.3.0.14, 10/16/2009 10:15AM PST

The purpose of Flip4Mac is to play as many types of WMV on your Mac as possible. Since Microsoft implemented Silverlight you must have it for media wrapped in that player. Without it, a whole bunch of folks may start complaining," Flip4Mac can't play . . ." Silverlight ensures that you'll play those files since Flip4Mac can't. NetFlix instant view is a good example.

and . . .

You CAN create Silverlight with Flip4Mac.
Once your file is in Quicktime 7.x Pro (must be Pro)
File>Export>
In the Save Exported File As box
Export to Windows Media
Click on Options
You'll see four tabs
Video, Audio, Content, Silverlight

The Silverlight tab allows you create a WMV wrapped in Silverlight
just as one might create an FLV in a Flash Player.

The last bullet; "Fixed bug that prevented ASX streams from playing in Firefox 3."

Otherwise everything else mentioned is the same as the previous release.

"Safari can't connect to microsoft.com, because the server is not responding" is what I get when I try to download Flip4Mac to my iBook G4/OS 10.5.8. It downloads without a hitch on an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard. Stumped.

When trying to burn .wmv files with Toast Titanium 8, only the first chapter of each video is used; crap.

this new version installs Silverlight by default. You can do a custom install to prevent Silverlight from being installed.
Silverlight is evil, because MS has not and most likely will not release authoring tools for Macintosh. Meaning that while you can play the stuff on your Mac, there is no way to create content for it, you'd need to get Windows to do that.

>I now have very serious concerns about using their professional products if ever needed, the company looks like completely infested by MS mind lately. They weren't like this before.

what do yo mean?-theyve always had this shamelesss, MS-like, sleazy sort of "were gonna squeeze every dime we can out of ya" business model-so unlike Mac;
While everyone has to make a living-you note that in the Windows worlds it all comes down to an in-your-face 'we want yer $$$$££'-everything else is secondary-Mac developers seem to be bit more tasteful and restrained and dont come across like.....well, like Bill Gates
