Product Description:

Some folks are unsure what application is frontmost (active) at a given moment (because on Mac OS X different applications' windows can be interleaved, the "frontmost window" indication is not all that clear, you can close all windows and still be in an application, etc.). My mother is one of those people, and telling her to look at the "bold word next to the Apple in the menu bar" doesn't help. So I wrote this application for her. It tracks what application is frontmost and tiles the desktop (transparently, so you can still see the desktop picture) with the icon of that application, thus giving a subliminal visual indication of what application is frontmost. Free. Tiger only.

MothersHelper ReviewI love this... - Version: 0.1, 2/2/2007 06:12AM PST

... and I'm not your mother! :^)

Seriously, it's a drag to have to look up the current app name in the menu when one is working on a 2048x1536 monitor, so this is quite handy, especially when used over a none-too-loud background picture.

Couldn't the same idea be used to tile the background with the current app icon on top of the current time (up to minutes, say)? Further reduction of neck strain would follow...
