CamiTools Troubleshooting ReportInstaller doesn't work on Intel, but CamiTools does - Version: 4.6, 11/21/2006 02:35AM PST

Open CamiTools. Inside you'll find a folder "Panes_IntelMac". In the folder is the preference pane for Intel computers. Drag or copy it to:

~/Library/Application Support/Camino/PreferencePanes

Quit Camino and restart.

CamiTools CommentaryDoesn't recognize any version of Camino on MacBook Pro ... - Version: 4.6, 10/26/2006 04:10AM PST

I've never managed to get this to work with the current release version of Camino or with a number of nightly builds. The installation script reports that it has installed the PPC version, even though I don't have a PPC version of Camino installed (I've verified that each of the nightly builds were universal binaries). Predictably, CamiTools then don't show up in the Camino preferences.

I would really appreciate some help here. Shortly after installing Camitools, while I was setting up some toolbar search options, Camino ceased to operate. As an app it still opens, but the browser window just won't open.

CamiTools CommentaryProblem Identified! - Version: 4.4, 3/22/2006 05:22AM PST

After some back and forth with the author, a specific problem with the Search Engine Editor was identified and will be fixed in the next update. FWIW, the "problem" has no affect on application or OS level stability at all. And it probably doesn't even hit most people as it has to do with specific engines.

That being said, Camino users owe it to themselves to install this wondrous extension to Camino, open up the pref pane and select CamiTools/Search and hit the button "Open Depot." Only then will you REALLY appreciate the function.

Now for a tip... you can type a search term in the menubar, select and engine and go there... then you can select another engine without having to re-enter the search term and go there! Very cool.

AND in another bit of good news, code has been written and added to the nightlies that allow a user to expand the size (horizontal length) of the Search text entry in the toolbar (ah, what a Pink can do without his Amo).

CamiTools CommentarySearch Engine Editor - Version: 4.3.1, 3/13/2006 01:14PM PST

The major compelling feature IMO is the ability to edit/configure the search engines from the text entry box in the toolbar. The author maintains an truly excellent page listed hundreds of engines to use.

However, the function is quite buggy, even in this version. I keep getting an "AppleScript Error" that it can not "get text item 3 of... ending in code (-1728). It then opens my list, but lops off 4 or 5 items that are in my list.

Upon occasion, it can completely wipe all addresses one has added if you try and add something manually.

The only troubleshooting tip documented has to do with space characters in addresses... I know all about "@amp" so that is not an issue.

My vote is for attention to this, please!

CamiTools CommentaryI cannot try... - Version: 4.3, 3/11/2006 08:49AM PST

...because the new preferences can't be found after Camino is restarted. I tried the automatic installer and also the manual procedure. Read the FAQ but I don't found anything about that (or I didn't find it!). Camino 1.0; OSX X.4.4

All things camino
There was a time when I thought this was the best browser--fast, intuitive and seemingly designed for a mac..then with the fell swoop of one upgrade, Camino became a sluggish bore. I switched. I went to the Firefox, who dashed quickly among the hills and valleys of the Internet. But, I still used Camino at work, because it moved quickly and, frankly it had all my bookmarks. The along came Camitools...Upon so-called installation it was said it would appear in the preferences--it did not...I have no idea where Cami is, but she ain't on this Camino/

CamiTools Troubleshooting ReportDoesn't work for me - Version: 4.2, 2/26/2006 09:01AM PST

I feel weird looking at the other reviews, but for me just doesn't work.
I tried it three times and each time, after adding a new search engine, Camino won't work anymore. It starts, the toolbar appear and is fully functional (included camitools), but no navigation window. It's like the navigation window is somewhere else. I had to uninstall Camitool and revert the Camino folder in my library.

CamiTools ReviewIs there a way - Version: 4.0, 1/29/2006 09:57AM PST

to have it put

user_pref("browser.download.autoDownload", false);

in users.js

This adds quite a bit of flexibility (it gives you the save as dialog box that lets you choose where the file is saved) and is my primary reason for preferring Camino to Safari.

If it is in there, sorry, if not, it would be worth adding.
