I bought this at 1.2 but refused to spend what I consider a large amount just to get an upgrade for software that was promising but buggy.

Those who suggest that "Even a beginner can create a professsional website with Goldfish" must not have been beginners for many years. The documentation is so skimpy on this program that it is impossible for a true beginner to determine how it works, what the tools do, how to perform simple tasks. Unless you are already familiar with other ways of constructing websites this is totally useless. Actually, it might work quite well, but there is no comprehensive documentation that explains how to use it. I had to just give up and look for another program.

I'm guessing the word "professional" is being used loosely in this product description.
I'm leery of ANY application that comes as a .pkg installer package. So I investigated the installer package with Pacifist.
It appears as though Goldfish installs many fonts in addition to it's own files. As standard practice, I don't install additional fonts from some small WEB application that SHOULD NOT need them. The user should be allowed to choose wether fonts are installed or not. Using Pacifist I simply pulled the app out of the installer package along with the "designs" folder.
I chose to run the "Pro" trial. The application ran stable. I did not experience any issues with basic functionality. Usability is another matter. I find attempting to edit one of the prepackaged designs troublesome. Inability to actually change some items like menu titles (this may be due to my lack of experience with the application) simply lead to frustration. In addition using the option to insert HTML or CSS appears to do nothing. At least there's no discernible difference to the page I'm viewing within Goldfish. No clue how those items are actually supposed to function since they did nothing for me. I was unable to examine code to see where they were being placed.
As a professional web designer I was most interested to see the code that Goldfish spit out. After all, if it creates clean code and saves time, the application may be beneficial in some respect. Unfortunately, the developer has chosen to disable both the Export and Publish options in the trial so I was unable to examine the code. That's where the true test will lie.
Until the developer allows the trial to at least spit out 1 page I would hesitate to purchase this application. This is especially true since applications such as iWeb and Rapidweaver cost less than or close to this application without any of the issues I've listed above.
In short, it was easy to drag and drop items. Some items were easily ediateble, while others were not. The stability and compliance of the code is anyone guess. Spend a few extra dollars and get Rapidweaver. Same basic functionality with tried and true usage.

Goldfish is _worse_ in that a folder "Goldfish 2.0" is created where _they_ decide it must go and, if you rename it, poof, nothing works! This is fascism and I will not tolerate it. Goldfish might be everything the other reviewers say and it might even be the answer to my prayers but it's not going to hang around on my drive.

Hi Eric G, actually if you waited more than a day to get an answer, which on the support forum the developer and someone else replied to your question, which really is non brainer. This programme has entered the next faze and is in beta, beta have bugs... and for the price!... this is great.

I was impressed by Goldfish at the start, but then ran into serious problems.
One the help support is all but nonexistent. The software uses naming conventions that connot be used by most web hosting companies (I checked with two). It is very difficult to upload files from your office computer to your website (and absolutely no documentation on that issue). And, after several days of waiting, I have yet to hear back from their tech support about several key questions.
The software is also very buggy.
It's definitely NOT ready for regular use.

this application is wicked, looking forward to further updates and what they may offer, though purchased it... very happy. For clean optimized and fast websites! I can design in anything and then put it together in Goldfish... optimized, unlike the expensive applications out there whose code is a nightmare. Brilliant support too.
Goldfish will not succeed because there is absolutely no support from the developer who has apparently written this software as a hobby. The help is minimal and the user forums are a ghost town of previous users that have given up on getting any help or updates. There are hardly any new threads and most are from 2006. Most of the newer threads have never been answered.
This developer needs to sell this program to a company that will support and update it. I do not recommend buying it until this developer decides he wants to take this project seriously.
