Product Description:

Cleans out ~/Library/Caches, /System/Library/Caches, and /Library/Caches Great for use with ARD/NetBoot! ***THERE IS NO APPLICATION!*** (the installer IS the program!) When the package is "installed", scripts run in the background and empty out the folders previously mentioned. To "Clean Caches" again, run the installer again.

What's new in this version:

  • More logging for system events
  • Log files now placed in separate directory (/Library/Logs/SISUWORKS/CleanCachesBySW.log)
  • Reduced dependency on executing commands as root, due to the fact that root authentication is required anyways
  • Forced Software to only run on Root volume (currently booted volume) to clear up some confusion

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

Clean Caches Troubleshooting Reportdmg fails to mount w/ Mac OS X 10.3.9 - Version: 3.0, 1/6/2006 02:08PM PST

i could not mount the .dmg file, with an error message reporting a "corrupt image." i have ran into this quite a few times lately...i'm pretty sure it has to do with a new 10.4/Tiger-only .dmg option. (i personally still use 10.3.9.) apparently there is a new type of .dmg file that can only be mounted with Mac OS X 10.4.x.

all the recent updates from this developer have this problem, including Clean Caches By SW 3.0, Fix Permissions By SW 2.5, and Software Update By SW 2.5.

i don't know if this increasingly common problem is the fault of developers not reading the documentation...or of Apple not making it clear that these disk images don't mount on pre-Tiger systems, but i wish that someone would straighten this mess out.

I can think of an existing app that's already in Mac OS X that does the same thing...the Finder. If you can't find your way to ~/Library/Caches or /Library/Caches and delete the problematic files then you need your head checked. Deleting system caches will cause more headaches than it's worth. It's not "routine maintenance." Read the side-effects of "cleaning" system caches. PS...might want to fix the spelling in the paths, as they are case-sensitive.
