Product Description:

Fractographer is a program to plot the fractals of mathematical functions. It can take any arbitrary formula you input, so long as it follows a few guidelines. You can then save the current fractal to an image of any size you want, or you can just save the current formula for later use. You can also use as many colors as you want, and set what bounds they will use, as well as different interpolation levels. More specific information is found in the included readme.

Fractographer ReviewWork to do - Version: 2.0.2, 1/1/2006 01:20AM PST

It works but in general it is difficult to choose the right parameters to get nice pictures. For that, experience must be build in much time.

Fractographer Developer NoteIf you downloaded right after the update... - Version: 1.0.1, 12/13/2005 08:32PM PST

For a few minutes after uploading the current version, I noticed that I ended up having a massive memory leak. It wasn't noticeable for the small fractals (such as the default formula), hence why I didn't catch it at first. However, fortunately I did find out about it within a few minutes and have fixed it. If you downloaded between around 1/2 hour before the update and 10 minutes afterwards and you are experiencing massive system slowdowns with large fractals, re-download to fix the issue. If you aren't sure, might as well re-download anyway. (since it's not that big in the first place :-P)

Fractographer Developer NoteFor those of you with low screen resolutions... - Version: 1.0, 12/9/2005 11:01AM PST

I tried to make the screen as small as possible with still having a good ratio, but I guess it still wasn't small enough for the older iBooks. It's optimal on resolutions of 1027x768 or higher, but I just whipped something up that will make it work for resolutions of 800x600. I won't update the full version with this, since the ratio of the viewer isn't ideal, but it will now work for the lower resolutions. You can download a patch with simple instructions here.

When it has a black screen, does it say "Calculating.... xx% " at the bottom? That means it isn't done with the fractal yet. When calculating fractals, it must do the formula that you enter at most the number of iterations you enter for each pixel of the picture. That means that it can take a while to calculate.
