Chax Commentaryneeds at least 10.5 - Version: 2.2.2, 11/1/2009 06:44AM PST

When I try to install it, I get the message "incompatible system version, needs at least 10.5 to run", and I am running 10.6.1, so what is the problem, exactly ? Do we need a Snow Leopard patch ? Is there an update in the pipeline ?

Chax Usage TipBest feature: auto accept Screen Share by name - Version: 2.1.2b2, 4/14/2008 06:41AM PST

One of the most overlooked features in Chax is the ability to auto-accept Screen Share, specifically set to certain other users (like just yourself).

Where could this be handy? If you travel with a laptop and suddenly realize that you need a file from your home Mac, it's now easy. Just keep your home Mac on, and then from your hotel in Bombay or Sydney or wherever, Screen Share into your home Mac. You can copy files over to you, print stuff from your home printer (for your partner to fax out, etc). It's just a dang cool feature.

The Chax haxies interfere with Papers db management. If you use Papers for managing your pdf database and develop problems, check the Chax haxies in the crash file.

Chax ReviewAn Essential for iChat Users - Version: 2.1, 12/13/2007 08:57AM PST

This is one of the best freeware out there. Great developer support and the features are must-haves for anyone using iChat. Only thing I could wish for would be to have buddies combine in the combined buddy list across clients (i.e. all of friend X's screen names from jabber and aim be seen as one user name in the buddy list like with Adium), but that may be a pipe dream.

Either way, this is terrific. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Chax ReviewEVERYTHING iChat should have been! - Version: 2.1b1, 12/6/2007 03:41PM PST

I have never regularly used iChat until Leopard came out. Mostly because I couldn't stand many aspects of it. The main 3 were: no tabbed chat windows, no combined "Contacts" window with ALL services included, and finally, didn't support MSN, which my company uses. There were a lot of other annoyances, but those kept me from using the program, especially since Adium had ALL of them and more.

Well, Apple sweetened the deal with better multi-media chatting options and screen-sharing, and actually fixed the 1st problem I had - tabbed chat windows. As a result of these, I moved to iChat with Leopard. This was very frustrating, though. Now, where I used to have a single Contacts window and a single chat window, I now have to have 6! 3 for the 3 services I'm subscribed to in iChat, plus the chat window. Add to that the normal contacts window and chat window of Adium to keep MSN. That takes up some serious real estate on the screen. Luckily, at work, I have that real estate, so I've been suffering through it.

Well, now all of my iChat complaints have been solved! THANK YOU CHAX! (All but MSN, but I understand the licensing problem there.)

Not only are all of the issues I had solved, but now iChat is up to parity with other apps by being able to automatically resize the contacts window (Yeah! there's a SINGLE contacts window!) and the notifications are awesome. It also changes my away message when my screensaver activates or de-activates. And there are many more toys that really complete iChat.

Now, if i could just get MSN in there (Yeah, I know Jabber can do it, but it's not easy.) it would be PERFECT.

I am so grateful for the program, I immediately PayPal'ed a donation to Mr. Sutherland.

Chax Troubleshooting ReportChax v2.0 Not installing - Version: 2.0, 11/17/2007 05:47PM PST

Since I have gone to 10.5 Chax has not worked.

I cleaned out SIMBL from my user folder library and Drive Library and tried installing.
The bundle is in the drive Lib>InputManagers>Chax folder.

When I launch ichat 4.0 in OSX10.5.1 on a G5 1.5DP It doesn't even show up in prefs or in the menu.

Did I do something incorrect or is it not happy yet?

TIA

Chax Usage Tipnow it works - Version: 2.0b1, 11/10/2007 06:44AM PST

I realized that this wasn't working in Leopard because I had an old version of SIMBL in my home Library and the new one in the main Library. I threw away the old one and Chax started working.
