Product Description:

Sudokut is a command line sudoku solver.

Sudokut is written in Tcl, a platform-independent scripting language, so it should work on any platform (Unix, Mac OS X, Windows) provided a Tcl interpeter is installed (which isnormally the case by default on Unix and Mac OS X).

It is quite fast (less than one second for medium force sudokus, approx 4 seconds for the most difficult ones).

The command has several options. The package comes with a detailed help file.

What's new in this version:

Version 0.4 implements the following features:

naked quadruplets reduction.
hidden quadruplets reduction.
swordfish reduction.
new option -e to put in explanatory mode.
new option -i to ignore some solving techniques.
new option -l to rate the level of difficulty.
support for pipes: sudokut can now read from standard input.
improved readability of messages.

Like the text above says, it's a Tcl script, not a MacOS X binary and GUI based tool. It helps to know a bit of standard Unix too. You have to install a Tcl (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tcl) shell to get this to work on your Mac. I recommend tclsh from fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net/). Once you have installed fink, then installed tclsh, just open a Terminal window and invoke a Tcl shell with the "tclsh" command. Navigate to the sudokut script and feed it your command line encoded Sudoku puzzle and it will solve it. Pretty damn cool. I was wanting to see anything Sudoku done in a script, and this fits the bill nicely. Good job!
