Product Description:

SingleFramer is a frame-capture application developed in MAX/MSP/JITTER for students at the Cooper Union art school in NYC, USA. It allows you to capture individual frames from a DV camera, either manually or automatically (time-lapse). You can use "onion-skinning" to see an overlay of your previous frame as you compose your shot. You can load an existing movie so you can match your setup from a previous day. (Useful if you need to break down borrowed equipment between shoots.)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Tested on OS X 10.3 and 10.4. A fast G4 processor is recommended.

The new version does indeed fix the problem with getting the last frame to display on the previous day's loaded movie, so set up the next day is easy. The addition of automatic double or triple framing is a very nice touch. I loved this before, I love the new version even better.

The user interface is totally non-Mac. But it is also totally self-explanatory. I have used SingleFramer for both animation and time lapse. The onion skinning is very nice. The time lapse is wonderfully flexible, allowing rate changes and manual shooting of frames at will, which is quite helpful on processes that proceed at variable rates, like flowers growing and blooming. The program is light, simple, a joy to use. I will, as the program itself advises, distribute it freely.
