Product Description:

iChatOnLogin
logs you into your iChat accounts ( AIM/Bonjour/Jabber ) when you login. Why not start iChat instead ? You can, but then you have iChat.app running, which I don't want to have running while not chatting.
It's intention is to have a small application on login startup and log you into your iChat accounts. It uses the iChat preferences for figuring out which accounts to log in.

What's new in this version:

new defaults database value justlogin when set the application just logs in and ignores if it is in the startup items. defaults write de.jinx.iChatOnLogin justlogin 1

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

iChatOnLogin.app CommentaryRequest & note to dev. - Version: 1.05, 9/9/2006 03:06AM PST

I like this app. - it works nicely for me. I often used to forget to manually login to iChat and don't like to have it in my logon items list because of the way iChat starts with the Buddy List open. I have more than enough items in my logon items list anyway! That said, I have two comments for the dev.:

1 The app. would be even better if there was a setting that allowed one to choose what status to logon under. I prefer 'away' and it currently defaults to 'available'.

2 The links on both VersionTracker and MacUpdate sites to the dev. seem to be broken.

iChatOnLogin.app CommentaryIcon in menu bar? - Version: 1.05, 9/8/2006 11:49PM PST

Doesn't having the iChat icon in your menu bar do the same thing?

In 10.3.9 the iChat daemon launches at startup/log-in, uses minimal CPU cycles while it's running, and the app itself is not launched until you use it.

This program's dangerous on laptops. Why can't it just run, do its thing, and then quit?
