Product Description:

Tabulated data is still around. In many cases, comma-separated value (and other formats) is still the easiest way to move data from one application to another. For OS X users, a spreadsheet application was the easiest way to manipulate tabulated data files. Enter XTabulator. Why use a jackhammer to hang pictures when a plain old hammer will do just fine? As with all Bartas Technologies applications, simplicity is the guiding principle. Need another field in the data file? Just click the Add Column button. Need to rearrange them? Drag and drop them. Need to add 10,000 new records quickly? No problem. Even changing multiple values in a large data set is made easy with the AutoFill feature. XTabulator's low cost and high flexibility makes it a must-have tool for anybody who regularly works with tabulated data files.

XTabulator ReviewGreat product, almost there, but a show-stopper bug. - Version: 1.1.3, 8/1/2008 02:37PM PST

I've used XTabulator for several weeks for handling comma-separated data, and I'm quite satisfied with it. It fills a niche where a spreadsheet is overkill and a text editor doesn't quite cut it.

There is, however, one major bug that prevents me from being able to use it fully. If the CSV data contains commas within each column, the data is usually enclosed in quotes. But XTabulator does not parse such lines correctly, resulting in splitting the data from one column into several.

Here's an example: (the line numbers are for demo, not in my data.)

1: Column 1 Data That Does Not Contain A Comma, Column2Data, Column3Data
2: "Column 1 Data, That Contains Commas, But the Whole Thing is Quoted, So This Shouldn't Break Into Four Columns", Column2Data, Column3Data

Line 1 is parsed correctly, Line 2 is not. I contacted Bartas Technologies Support over a month ago and opened a ticket, but it has gone unanswered.
