Lingon ReviewPlease give us back advanced features - Version: 2.0, 11/11/2007 08:47AM PST

I regulary used Lingon 1, but with v2, I had to return to launchctl in CLI, it's way too poor compared to Lingon 1.
At least, if you don't want to burden with including an "advanced mode", let Lingon 1 run with Leopard, I guess that launchctl hasn' t been that changed.
Thx, Xav

Lingon ReviewGreat Software - Version: 2.0.1, 11/7/2007 05:55PM PST

This program makes an obscure feature of the OS much more accessible for many more people. And it's a feature many people want - to run things at startup time and periodically.

Version 2 make things easier and more obvious. Although 2.0.1 still needs a bug fix or two, the developer is very responsive and this is great software.

In my line of work I often need to mess around with various Startup items, daemons, agents, cron jobs & etc.

Lingon is the #1 most usefull tool I have found for this. I have in the past created and edited Startup items and launchd items by hand... let me tell you Lingon has made these tasks easy.

For those few who are having troubles... come on already! Don't just complain about your problem, include some information about your system so the guy can have at least a snowballs chance in Hades of fixing it.

Consider, dudes and dudettes, that this is FREEWARE. This guy is providing it you gratis, just for the joy of being able to help others.

If you hammer him for things beyond his control (can't get the download), or for things he has no knowledge of the details (won't run)... you take away that joy, and soon he'll spend his free time playing DOOM rather than addressing any issues.

If you provide constructive feedback, with pertinent details about your system, who knows.... the dude might actually work with you to fix it!

For my part, I say thanks, and well done.

Lingon 2.0 crashes immediately on launch in Leopard. Reset of the preference file doesn't help. Looking forward to a quick fix.

Lingon Commentary64 bit? - Version: 2.0, 10/26/2007 09:46PM PST

tkzero
I don't mean to be critical or anything, but I don't understand why this would need to be 64-bit.

One of the things I can see happening with Leopard out is people getting unnecessarily hung up on apps being 64-bit, when it's really only needed for accessing large amounts of memory (>4GB) or handling massive datasets: http://developer.apple.com/macosx/64bit.html

All Lingon does is build small plist files, like, <5KB, and load and unload them out of launchd.

Lingon ReviewThis program rocks - Version: 1.2.1, 7/23/2007 11:18PM PST

Cron is about to be a thing of the past on OSX, and just as I was looking for a way to deal and learn with the new Launchd system, I found Lingon.

So far, I can tell that it works as advertised, the interface is complete and helpfull, with a bit of explanation where it is needed (more would be even better, but that's a great start).

I had a few problems at first, but the the programmer's quick and friendly help, I was able to track down the bug to (of course) my own misbehaving application that was in fact, launched just fine from thanx to Lingon.

Lingon ReviewVery useful - Version: 1.1.2, 8/4/2006 12:47PM PST

Knowing that I'm keeping my scripting machine up-to-date, I know that cron isn't the way to go. Lingon offers a clean, easy way to keep on run my scripts using launchd, and I didn't have to fight through a CLI to do it.
