Apple AirPort Base Station Update CommentaryWhere's Base Station Agent? - Version: 2007-002, 8/14/2007 11:44AM PST

What's the story about the AirPort Base Station Agent update...the third part of this package? According to MacFixIt, it's located in /System/Library/CoreServices but my OS 10.4.10 install doesn't even have a CoreServices folder. Further, Spotlight doesn't reveal such a folder in any other location.

Is the folder dependent upon the hardware it's installed on by chance (PPC here)? Or is it a hidden folder?

Everything is working fine after running the 2007-002 update and there's a USB drive hooked up to the 802.11n AEBS which mounts OK.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update CommentaryMy USB drive now mounts!! - Version: 2007-002, 8/14/2007 09:57AM PST

I have three drives with USB2 connections and one of them (a WiebeTech RTX 100) wouldn't mount on the wireless network when plugged in to my 802.11n AEBS even though it mounted just fine when connected directly to any of my three computers. But it does now after this update...wahoo!!

First, opened up AirPort Utility, selected the AEBS, hit the new "Manual Setup" button and after it opened, clicked on "Disks" to find the drive was now listed...that was good news indeed. Then clicked the "File Sharing" tab to ensure I had "Enabled" file sharing.

Next, opened AirPort Disk Utility and confirmed both boxes were "Checked."

Lastly, pulled down the AirPort Disk icon from the top menu (when in Finder), selected the AEBS the recalcitrant USB drive was connected to and told the next window to "Connect with Password."

Closed AirPort Disk Utility and lo and behold, the drive mounted on the Desktop.

Thank you, Apple!!

Apple AirPort Base Station Update Troubleshooting Reportextracting the full app - Version: 2007-002, 8/14/2007 06:49AM PST

Browse the contents of airportutility.pkg and double-click on the "archive.pax.gz" file. It will drop a folder on the desktop called "Archive". Drop the files in that folder to their corresponding locations on the drive.
Worked perfectly, and properly administers all 3 of my Airport Express base stations, cleaner and faster than Airport Admin Utility 4.2. It's a shame Apple doesn't offer this straight up.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update CommentaryAre you SQUARE? - Version: 2007-002, 8/14/2007 05:34AM PST

Andreas..
If you have the "Flying Saucer" Base Station you should carry on using "AirPort Admin Utility". This update is for "AirPort Utility" (Note no "Admin") which comes with the newer SQUARE shaped Base Station.

Messing with Pacifist and having a mismatch of Apple products is unlikely to be wise.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update CommentaryAirPort Utility 4.2? - Version: 2007-002, 8/13/2007 06:10PM PST

If you have AirPort Utility 4.2, how in the word does one get version 5.0?

The instructions below don't seem to apply precisely to this latest package, I don't dare start picking and plucking from this new package, though I am tempted out of outrage that Apple wouldn't bother making the Utility 5.0 generally available.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update ReviewDear Apple - Version: 2007-002, 8/13/2007 05:51PM PST

Thanks for the update. My AEBS no longer has those annoying issues when my G5 comes out of sleep. I don't really know what this update was supposed to accomplish, but I am happier now. And that was my goal when I crossed over from the dark side.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update CommentaryThis is a scandal - Version: 2007-001, 3/31/2007 02:29AM PST

The new Airport utility works perfect with 811.11G (not N) based Airport base stations.

What is big deal for not offering this to people who already purchased Airport Extreme Basestation?

If Apple stays in this policy let us know since we keep recommending Airport basestation to Mac newbies for easy configuration and hassle free setup.

Apple AirPort Base Station Update Usage TipHOW TO MAKE THIS WORK - Version: 2007-001, 3/30/2007 11:01AM PST

For people (like me) that only have the AirPort Express (which is listed as support by this software) we can only update to AirPort 4.2.
I understand that this has confused alot of people here that have AirPort Extreme base stations with AirPort Utility 5.

THERE IS NOT AIRPORT UTILITY 5 FOR SOME OF US.
EVEN THOUGH "AIRPORT EXPRESS BASE STATION" IS LISTED AS SUPPORTED WE CAN NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE.

But now here's how:
1. Download this software and mount it.
2. Control-click on the install package, choose "Show Package Contents".
3. Go to Contents/Packages.
4. Now you can install the updated AirPort Admin Utility and the new AirPort Utility.
Note: AirPortDisk.pkg is not needed for the AirPort Express or old AirPort Extreme. It's for the new AirPort Extreme's USB drive feature.

--------------------WHAT THIS DOES--------------------
Before these directions:
/Applications/Utilities/AirPort Admin Utility <-- Version 4.2. THIS WAS ALL!

After these directions:
/Applications/Utilities/AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow <-- Version 4.2.5. UPDATED!
/Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility <-- Version 5.1. NEW!

Note: AirPort Admin Utility is now called AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow.
------------------------------------------------------------

AirPort Utility 5.1 does make a difference compared to AirPort Admin Utility 4.2.
It is much nicer and easier to use.

Finally! *roll eyes*

Apple AirPort Base Station Update Commentaryconfused - Version: 2007-001, 3/30/2007 10:51AM PST

I'm a bit confused here as Apple states it improves AirPort Snow base stations, but later they say it's only for newer Express or Extreme base stations. Do I need to install this? I have a second generation Snow base station.
